If the county truly cared about solid waste, and cleaning up the county, they would wave (or lessen) the county dump prices. Even increasing the regularity of “free dump day” would be a step in the right direction.
25.00 for a small utility trailer load is entirely to much.
Waiving or decreasing dump fees doesn’t make it cheaper for residents…. what it does is make it more expensive for those residents that pay property taxes because the county has to pay to the cost of transportation and PROPER disposal of the garbage they collect at the county garage. As a former Regional Supervisor for the State Division of Waste Management, I applaud the county for enforcing mandatory garbage pickup. I worked with judges in 40 counties who dealt with the same solid waste issues and the ones who were the most successful were the ones who had mandatory collection. The collectors were actually able to lower their fees some after it became functional because they had a higher volume of customers along their routes. Good luck Jim!
When John Osborn was in office a utility trailer was 15.00 a load and as soon as Phil Carter took office it went to 25.00 a load. That’s a little over a 66% increase.
It’s about time. Drive up and down the rural parts and let’s see what gets done. Should just attach to a property tax bill whether they use it or not. Most too lazy to sit the garbage out. Just sling out the back door
The only problem with attaching it to a property tax Bill is that all those folks that rent or live for free on someone else’s property (and that is a high percentage in LC) arent paying for garbage fees…..
It would be up to the owner to add it to the rent payment or simply eat the added cost of each renter. Up to them.
I can’t wait to see the enforcement actually happen. County administrations have tried this in the past with little to no success. It’s sad when a county government passes an ordinance without any real way of enforcement.
