KHSAA sets August 3rd date for returning to normal practice
Golf would be the only sport to start earlier
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky High School Athletic Association met with its Board of Control on Friday setting more dates for its schools and sports going forward. The biggest was an August 3rd date for mandatory practices to begin which, in a normal year, would start on July 15.
The only sport that will be allowed to start sooner is golf, which will have some spectator limits. They will be able to start on July 15 with competition starting as early as July 31. As far as other sports starting competition, the KHSAA plans to see what happens in the next two to three weeks and come up with guidelines by early August.
Athletes are also being limited to six hours of practice per week, per sport. This is to make sure they limit the amount of exposure to other players during those workouts.
KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett also made mention that Governor Andy Beshear’s mask mandate had an exception for any person who is actively participating in athletic practice, scrimmage or competition. But Tackett also noted that masks will be imperative to high school sports returning.
