SHERIFF KIRK SAYS CHARGES ARE  LIKELY TO BE FILED AGAINST BOTH STABBING VICTIMS, AS CITIZENS WHO LIVE NEAR CRIME SCENE SPEAK OUT ON WHAT THEY WITNESSED

SEPTEMBER 29, 2019 – written by WADE QUEEN

INEZ — More information has come to light in regards to the incident in Martin County Thursday night that left two men with stab wounds from a knife, as well as the stabbing suspect hospitalized with blunt force trauma injuries to his face and head.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Kirk, there has been only one side of the story reported so far in connection to the stabbing suspect, and that there is a possibility that the other two men who were injured may also be facing “significant” charges themselves.

Meanwhile, some Martin County residents gave their opinions on the incident.

“The only thing I know is I heard a big ruckus,” recalled Willard Maynard. “One of them kind of hollered, “hurry up, hurry up, hurry up.” The next thing you know is he came across the road here, wrong driveway. Then he went to the next driveway.”

TIM GULLETT

According to a citation report issued by the Martin County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened on Rockcastle Road, where two men were stabbed in front of Mooney’s Heating and Cooling business store along state Route 3, just about a mile north of Inez.

“It can happen about anywhere, you know?” said Willard Maynard.

Martin County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a Milo Road home about 4 miles from where the fight took place. When deputies arrived on the second

JERRY L. MAYNARD

scene, they found two men, Brandon Fannin and Jerry Maynard, and that Maynard and Fannin were trying to recover from their injuries, from with they each had numerous stab wounds to the stomach and chest area.

Both Jerry Maynard and Brandon Fannin were taken to Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa.

Another neighboring resident talked about the surprising commotion that he had witnessed.

“The first thing like this that ever happened to me. I’m really from Ohio. I used to live in the ghetto and it wasn’t this bad,” explained Adam Metcalf.

Both Adam Metcalf and Willard Maynard live in front of the local heating and cooling business.

Through official investigation, deputies charged Timothy Gullett with first-degree assault. He is currently in the hospital being treated for injuries, that he claims were inflicted on him by the other two men.

According to an arrest citation, while being questioned Gullett told deputies that both Jerry Maynard and Brandon Fannin hit him in the face with a hammer.

He also allowed police to look at Facebook conversations between him and Jerry Maynard. In those messages, deputies say Gullett told Maynard, “You shouldn’t have talked s*** boy. I’m not a keyboard warrior like you, I like to whip a**”.

Gullett allegedly admitted to deputies to using a pocket knife to stab both Maynard and Fannin.

Deputies say he also told them he then went home to wash his hands and knife.

Local folks gave simple, but stern warnings about precautions to one’s personal safety and general well being, such as in regards to similar situations like in the run up that led to the bloody confrontation.

“You never know what you’re going to get into. You can walk up the road and get hit in the head or anything,” said Willard Maynard.

Watch who you mess with,” Willard Maynard added.

As of the second half of the weekend, Brandon Fannin is still in the hospital.

Jerry Maynard received treatment and was released from Three Rivers Medical Center.

Once Timmothy Gullett is released from the hospital, he will be taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention center in Paintsville.

All three of these fools belong in a mental institution! If these idiots had a job, perhaps they wouldn’t have time to get on Facebook and argue about how mean they are? A job is something I doubt any of them ever considered, because they are likely to damn lazy. It would interfere with them laying up all night, and sleeping all day. They also look far to stupid to fill out an application. Their families must be so proud! If I were a judge, I would give them a choice, prison or a full tour in the USMC, in a combat zone…then we could see how mean they really are. I would bet all three would choose prison.

First of all Jerry Maynard is is a disabled veteran who worked many years in the coal mines. If Maynard ( trained army vet) and the other man hit that boy with a hammer first in the face as Gullett and some articles are stating, I can almost guarantee that boy never would have been able to get to his knife let alone stab both men 3 times each, one of them in landing in Maynard’s lower back. I am no gambler, but I would bet Maynard has been thoroughly trained to never turn his back on someone he feels is a threat. Gullett threatened and harassed Maynard for months over the phone due to his own jealousy. Maynard asked him numerous times to just move on and leave him alone. With that being said, the articles you read and what the police want to portray to the public, is not always the way things really go down.

Jerry Maynard is a disabled veteran who worked in the coal mine for many years to provide for his family. I would guarantee that if Maynard (who was trained for combat) and the other man took a hammer to Gullett the way he told the police and the news is reporting, he would most definitely not be able to get to his knife and inflict 3 critical stab wounds to each man, one being in Maynard lower back. I am no gambler, but I would bet that Maynard has been trained by the military to never turn his back on someone who is a threat. Gullett threatened and harassed Maynard for months. Maynard asked him to move on and leave him alone numerous times. With that being said the news articles and the police only tell the public what they want to because it makes for a better story, that does not mean that is the whole story.

So…Maynard is a disabled vet, and worked in the mines for years? The paper say’s he is 42 years old? That is quite an accomplishment for a 42 year old man, although it is possible. If that’s a true statement, my hat is off to him.

MAYNARD IS 42 AND A DISABLED DESERT STORM VETERAN. AND TRUST AND BELIEVE IF HE WANTED TO TRULY DAMAGE A PERSON, HE WOULDN’T NEED A HAMMER. YES HE WAS TRAINED VERY WELL BY OUR MILITARY THAT HE SERVED IN.

Why then did he get stabbed in the back? Why also would such a ‘highly trained’ combat vet, involve himself in a stupid Facebook drama? Now tell me how a disabled vet worked ‘for years’ in the coal mines? Obama destroyed the mines, Desert Storm happened before Obama, under Bush? Did Mr. Maynard work ‘for years’ in the mines before Bush? Remember he is 42. Or did a disabled vet work in the mines after Bush and desert storm? Did the VA have a problem with that? Not one damn thing you say (regardless how many cap’s you use), makes a bit of sense? Personally I think you are lying…unless you can explain it, and I don’t think you can.

Umm no he was not in Desert Storm, we would have more than likely been in middle school or 1st year of high school, but he is an army vet., and has worked numerous years in the mines. In MY OPINION, which I am no expert, Maynard was probably taken by surprise, hence the stab wound to the back. To me that would be more realistic. I’m sorry but I just can not fathom 2 grown men (one that had been trained to fight) had jumped Gullett, beat him in the head/face so bad and he would still be able to do the damage he did to the victims. Again, that is my opinion, I was not there. I do know Gullett walked out of the residence with a pocket knife, down an embankment, across a highway to get to where the 2 men were, Obviously with the intent to hurt somebody. I hope someone can enlighten me on this, If Gullett supposedly acquired that much trauma to face/head then fought them, and stabbing them multiple times I’m sure he should have been a little bum fuzzled,, So how was it after the two victims take off in the vehicle, he still managed to go back across the highway still holding his knife, go back up the embankment, back into the residence, wash his knife and hands then give a statement to cops that he was the one that had been jumped by Maynard and Fannin. The police stated Gullett boasted to Maynard via text about how he like to whoop a**, well I would almost bet he boasted to someone that he whooped some. People that like to brag, usually do so not realizing that they may just be bragging to the wrong people or person.

Btw Charles, Maynard is 42, he went in the army at 18. No he did not make it a career, so he was out by the age of 22. Which was 20 years ago, which equals numerous years in the coal mines…lol.

That is reasonable enough Maynard, the part I’m having a problem with is the “Disabled Vet” part, I am not sure who initially said that ,nonetheless it was said. Now, if he was disabled in the mines, as many good people have; reason would make him a disabled coal miner and a vet, working in the mines doesn’t make you a disabled vet. A disabled vet couldn’t work in the mines could they, without getting in serious trouble that is? You seem sensible enough to explain that, would you? Lol…as you say.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Lazer and its staff for allowing people the unencumbered chance to voice their opinion on local news stories, recollections or whatever. Many news media outlets in our area censor any opinion that doesn’t agree with their own. Even those on here that post pure ignorance, are allowed to do so freely. That is commendable and in the spirit of our first amendment rights. Their staff is accurate in its reporting and do a fine job. Many other media outlets could learn from the Levisa Lazer. This will be my last post, on this story…at least. Don’t worry KAG I’ll be back soon. 
