MARTIN COUNTY WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER LATEST RUN IN & CLASH WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT LEADS TO SEVERAL CHARGES INCLUDING FELONY ASSAULT OF AN OFFICER

ZZZZZZZ….. SHE MAY BE ASLEEP AND/OR OUT IN A STUPOR, BUT SHE IS THE MOST DANGEROUS WOMAN IN MARTIN COUNTY: MARLENA A. EVANS.

SUSPECT FROM LOVELY AREA LED AUTHORITIES ON FOOT CHASE AFTER SHE RAN AWAY THAT LED TO DANGEROUS SITUATION ON STATE BORDER BRIDGE; SECOND TIME SHE HAS FELONY ASSAULTED A POLICE OFFICER IN THE LAST 6 WEEKS

AUGUST 10, 2019 – written by WADE QUEEN

KERMIT BRIDGE — A Martin County woman, who has a very extensive criminal history, had another major confrontation with local law enforcement when she led officers on a foot chase early Wednesday morning which led to a dangerous situation on the Kermit Bridge which spans the Tug River.

According to a press release report from the Martin County Sheriff Department, just after midnight on Wednesday morning Aug. 7, Martin County Sheriff Sheriff John H. Kirk and Martin County Coroner Chris Todd spotted a woman staggering across the Kermit Bridge.

When Sheriff Kirk called for further assistance, Martin County deputy Aaron Blevins also responded to the scene and saw the woman, identified as Marlena A. Evans, 41, of Lovely, was standing on the bridge.

When deputy Blevins got out of his cruiser, Evans allegedly took off running, climbed the railing of the bridge and attempted to jump into the Tug River. Deputy Blevins along with Coroner Chris Todd grabbed Marlena Evans by the legs while she was hanging off the bridge.

The arrest report states Evans then tried to pull the two officers over the railing with her and threatened to kill them. Deputy Blevins, Coroner Chris Todd and Sheriff Kirk managed to pull her back over the railing and onto the sidewalk.

Police say Evans resisted arrest and had to be pepper-sprayed. Once Evans was handcuffed, she then assaulted the officers by kicking them in the legs. She also tried to head butt deputy Blevins when he was attempting to put her in the cruiser. Once the officers got Evans under control, she was finally placed into the back of the cruiser.

Evans was charged with 8 criminal offenses, consisting of 7 misdemeanors and 1 felony, which were the following:

  • • WANTON ENDANGERMENT-2ND DEGREE-POLICE OFFICER,
  • • RESISTING ARREST,
  • • MENACING,
  • • DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 2ND DEGREE,
  • PUBLIC INTOXICATION-CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (EXCLUDES ALCOHOL)
  •  ASSAULT 3RD DEGREE-POLICE OFFICER OR PROBATION OFFICER,
  •  TERRORISTIC THREATENING, 2ND DEGREE,
  • FLEEING OR EVADING POLICE,2ND DEGREE (ON FOOT).

After being taken into custody, Marlena Evans was transported to an area Hospital before being transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville, where she remains lodged as of Saturday afternoon August 10.

Marlena Evans’ latest arrest continues her long criminal history, as this latest run in with law enforcement marks the 46th time in the past 17 years (to June 2002), on 123 criminal charges consisting of a of wide selection of motor vehicle violations, misdemeanors, and numerous felonies. A reviewing of her oldest known arrest on the internet implies she had likely some crime arrests going back into the 1990s. The vast majority of these arrests took place in Martin County, but also some in Johnson, Lawrence, Leslie, and Perry counties. Evans crime record that most of her offenses when she was younger were somewhat minor, as she got older her the crimes she allegedly committed got more serious, including 1st and 2nd degree assault of individuals, sex crime charges of children, more than one escape of custody, parole violations, and so many more various offenses.

Evans’ last arrest in this past June 20 of this year led to being given with the nearly same identical charges, including felony 3rd degree assault of a police officer (something she has been charged with around a half a dozen times in her life).

Time will tell if there will be any additional or upgrades to Marlena Evans charges involving her latest arrest incident by the Martin County Sheriff Department, or more than likely, the Martin County Grand Jury, including the specter of a pair of attempted murder of a police officer charges, due to the fact that the arrest report stated that she allegedly tried to pull a deputy and the county coroner over the bridge with herself, too.

I been telling people for years that this woman is dangerous and if they don’t get her off the street she will end up killing someone I have known her close since I was a small child and for those who say oh she has no HElp she just needs help she has no family THAT IS PLAIN BULLSHIT she has family and they have tried time and time again to help her but when she cuts her brothers wife’s throat ear to ear almost killing her stabs her brother in the lung till he has to be life flighted out to survive damn people how much so you expect these poor people to put up with from this woman. She is the true definition of a sociopath and people on here saying OH she just needs help well she pulled the wool over your eyes that is for damn sure let her come live around your kids a few months then say the same things I bet you won’t.

Why do they keep letting this woman out of jail or prison. She is a danger to the public and herself. She definitely doesn’t even need to be around children. If it was a man she would already got a life sentence. Our officers deserve respect.

I agree with Jason Mollette…if y’all knew her and her Story u wouldn’t b so quick to judge her! Enlighten u …Eunice Slone, fyi she tried rehab, she voluntarily checked herself in ..like Three weeks ago and she stayed for two weeks not to mention she was at Mountain Comp the day this happened asking for help because she felt suicidal, and she was turned away!! U need to b praying for her instead of judging!! I do not condone what she did, but have any of u ever stopped to wonder about the reasons behind her behaviors? she has a disease that isn’t being treated, she goes to church almost every Thursday and sunday morning and Sunday night…and she is trying to find her way . prayers for her and the only thing that is going to fill that hole in her heart and in her soul is God! not the substances…she hasn’t learned that lesson yet and i pray to god she does before it’s too late!!

First off you choose to put those drugs up your vein,in your lungs, up your nose, or however they do it, they “choose” to do it!! No drug dealer had a gun to thier head forcing them, they choose it, so people need to quit convincing these addicts they have a disease because that is part of enabling them. Just saying. There is no excuse for anybody to be doing this over fourty times and not realize what they are doing is wrong. She needs an extended lockup. They will rehab her in there.

I would say that I pray that you have never have a mental illness, but I really hope you develop one. The world would be a little better if you jumped off that bridge.

She is right where she needs to be, she is a dangerous woman, she stabbed her own brother, and has a very bad background, I know her personally and would advise never getting acquainted with her, her brother is doing a 10 year stretch in prison for 1st degree murder, it runs in the family!

Why would I ever ever pray for someone who committed any sex crimes let alone against children no that wasn’t just addiction that was wanton evil maybe i should pray for her but to be brutally honest I would rather pray for her victims don’t care at all about her “story”

Wow people amaze me! To the person that said “ why would I pray for her” shame on you. And to the judgmental people on here who do not understand mental illness I hope and pray to God that you or no one in your family ever has to deal with it. I agree that she has done some terrible things, however she is clearly crying out for help and no one is listening. And whoever said “give her an extended jail stay they will rehab her there”clearly knows NOTHING about jail. Yes, she needs to pull some jail time to pay for her crime and to sober up, but she then needs some mental help, some behavioral modification and definitely some AA or NA. she just needs someone to believe in her and not to judge her. People like you are the reason she will never change. I do not know her at all but I can promise this… I will be praying for her and for you all as well. I pray that you will open your eyes and see that you are just as much a part of the problem and that you need to stop judging and start trying to be part of the solution. Remember she is someone’s daughter. She is the daughter of a King she just lost her way.

To Wv realist. Your ignorance to the addiction disease concept is not surprising as many people who haven’t lived in an addicts shoes cannot or will not be able to comprehend it. You are constitutionally incapable of understanding this. If you haven’t lived in our hell nor walked in our shoes then I would suggest you be quiet bc Everytime you open your mouth & speak to this disorder you will only be showing others just his stupid you are.
