Lotus Gaye (Sword) Robertson, 84, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019, surrounded by her family.
Gaye was born on January 21, 1935 to J. Hubert and Josephine (Hampton) Sword. She was raised in Fort Gay, West Virginia with four siblings. She married and moved to Mansfield, Ohio in 1955. Gaye enjoyed summers either mowing her lawn or sitting on the covered patio reading or working a crossword, and spent winters sewing quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was happiest when her family was together and always delighted in cooking too much of the family’s hillbilly favorites. She often invited her grandchildren to stay with her during long weekends—as they could not get enough of their beloved Grammy, or her fried chicken and potatoes, or her homemade biscuits or cornbread.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Robertson Jr; and her sister, JoAnn Smith.
She is survived by her son Frank R. (Tracy) Robertson of Mansfield, Ohio; her daughter Lisa Sharp of Shiloh, Ohio; and daughter Linda (Scollard) Reinhardt of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, as well as her sister Joy Maynard, and brothers Bob Sword and Jim Sword. Gaye was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Misty (Charles) Storey of Kingwood, West Virginia; J. Galen Brewer of Mansfield, Ohio; Richard Gassaway; Logan Gassaway of Columbus, Ohio; Keegan Sharp of Shiloh, Ohio; Ian Gassaway of Mansfield, Ohio; Presley Sharp of Shiloh, Ohio; and Thomas Gassaway of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She was also the loving great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren: Hannah, Kenny, Gage, and Bailey Metheny, and Elizabeth Gassaway. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
As per Gaye’s request there will not be a funeral service, but a Remembrance Celebration will be held at Joy Maynard’s residence in Louisa, Kentucky on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For directions to the Maynard residence, please contact a family member or the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice.
