Are Christians Failing Us?

By John Butch Preston

johnhprestonauthor.com

There seems to be a contradiction today between what Christians have always professed and what they practice. What happened to the Christian doctrine that exhorts Christians to make this a better world? Did not Christ himself say: “The other man must mean as much to you as your own self.” Why aren’t Christians following the great examples of the past?

We saw it in the beginning when a small sect of persecuted Christians converted the Roman Empire into a Christian Empire and established the mighty Roman Catholic Church, the mother church of all Christian faiths and denominations since. Haven’t Christians always had a duty to act in the name of God? What were the Crusades all about if not Christians taking action? And what about the Temperance Movement in the 19th Century, when Christians declared war on the evils of alcohol that infused the minds of fathers and sons with idiocy?

Where is the Christian enthusiasm today that seeks a better world? I see it mostly in only one activity: an effort to feed the poor and hungry. Noble yes, but completely putting aside what Christ said during the Three Temptations: “Man cannot live by bread alone.” The spirit too needs nourishment and the spirit is nothing if not Love.

Why do we have 5,000 soldiers on the Mexican border when there should be 5,000 Christians there welcoming these poor unfortunate refugees into a country where they can be safe from the ravages of their own country? Shouldn’t Christians have been there to protect against separating innocent little children from their mothers and fathers? This is a country of 350 million people; is there not a meager 5,000 Christians willing to act in the name of social justice? Head to the border now and bring comfort to these souls.

The two most egregious dangers facing the world today are climate change and over- population. Apparently, Christians are unconcerned. Why aren’t they raising their millions of voices on high against a government who denies this is happening? And faster than first predicted. The latest word from the scientific community is that we have approximately twenty years to try and turn this thing around.  I know Christians love their grandchildren, but do they love them enough to try and secure them from a future of certain extinction?

Christians are wasting their voices railing against abortion and demanding laws against it, when what they need to be doing is something positive to prevent abortion. It can’t be stopped (we still manufacture metal coat hangers) but it can be rendered unnecessary for the most part. Christians need to be the greatest advocates calling for more effective and easier birth control and going out by the millions into communities and schools instructing people to make wiser decisions in preventing unwanted pregnancies. And, instead of condemning homosexuals, Christians should be grateful that gays don’t produce unwanted children, thus helping to reduce the pollution of over-population.

And what about gun violence, racism, harmful drugs, government corruption, the greed of materialism, the threat of nuclear annihilation, and the awful sin of silence? You first have to save lives before you can save souls. Have Christians forgotten the edict that says God helps those who help themselves?

You may think I’m oversimplifying all this, but when you think about the most modern means of communication we have today, namely, the instant electronic media, an entire Christian movement to save the world is at your fingertips—millions upon millions of you can flood the world with echoes of Christ’s Sermon on the Mount and his message of sympathy for the down-trodden among us.

We have had knowledge of Good and Evil since Adam and Eve. Certainly, all Christians are good people but what are they doing to fight Evil? Just sitting around singing songs and clapping hands every Sunday is not going to do it. Even the unbelievers are depending on you. If you can’t do anything who else can? As Einstein says, ”Man is here for the sake of other men,” according to the original will of the God of creation.  (Please pass this along.)

So, it’s better to be gay (an abomination to God) so that you can’t have babies? You talk a big talk, but you need to read your Bible a little more and have someone help you understand it.

I am not even sure where to start with this article. First you want to welcome in 5k people illegally into our country. Isn’t Christian’s supposed to follow the law of the land? Or do they help these folks and break the law themselves? Now about these 5k people. If they seeked asylum to escape persecution they could of done that in Mexico. Why trot themselves all the way to our border? We have laws to enter this country legally why not try that instead of the 1st thing on our soil is an illegal act.
Next you chastise Christians for fighting against abortion. An act that kills the most innocent of us and yet you want them to support homosexuality because they cant reproduce. You expect Christian’s to support birth control and not push for absentice.
Why not just be upfront and honest with the Lazer readers. You want open borders, globalism, gun control, an open abortion system, disarmament of America, the glorification of the LGBTQ community, and the downfall of President Trump. Why not just say your a liberal Democrat.
To the Lazer: I have no issue with this man’s article and kinda enjoy reading the “other sides” opinion. Could you have someone with the opposite opinion also write an article and post. Be good to see both sides of an argument on your site not just readers comments back.

This man is a prime example of someone that needs prayers. Our country needs prayers. The world needs prayers. The Bible says too pray without seasing. May not be spelled right. But I know for a fact, that until this country turns back too God on which this country was founded, then things are only gonna get worse, the Bible also says if a man be ignorant then let him be ignorant. This man has the right to believe anything he wants. He can believe a chicken is an elephant if he wants to but that doesn’t mean he’s right. Articles like this makes me proud to be a Christian. I’m glad that in my heart I know better than this man is speaking of. The Bible also says that Christian’s will be persecuted for there beliefs. This is prime example of that. I recommend that all Christian’s pray for the author of this article. Have a blessed day…

The United States of America has proper channels for people seeking asylum. It does not include sneaking over the borders and reaping benefits at the cost of the American people without paying the price. The US gives millions of dollars to the countries whose people are fleeing them. It seems to me that the Democrats are more interested in the illegal immigrants than in their own countrymen. Were are the dollars to help the people of Kentucky, especially those caught up in the opioid epidemic?

I read the article and was struck by the author’s patently spiritual needs. I wonder who is praying for him?

OOPS! Last sentence of the first paragraph should have been “where”, not “were”.

Wow, just wow! This is classic “if you cant beatem, joinem. I shudder to thing what this country would be like with open borders, but ive got a pretty goid idea. Its very frustrating when i hear liberals and the media refer it as “the Trump administrations immigration policy when the truth is the immigration reform that created the fast-track deportation that is now being used was signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1996. Trump is simply enforcing laws that were already on the books. The liberal left remained silent on the reform because it wasnt being enforced, nor was it enforced to any significance by the Bush administration. Fact is the Obama administration deported more immigrants than any other president in american history which is why immigration groups referred to him as “Deporter in Chief”. So the next time the liberal left refer to deportation as being under Trumps policies, kindly refer them to the immigration reform act of 1996, which is what is being used today. Knowledge is power.

Annnnnnddddd the “Christians” get on here in the comments and prove the guys point he was making in the article. I’m Christian and I have love and compassion for EVERYONE. I don’t get this hate that everyone has against anyone who disagrees with them. I love and respect the people commenting, even if I think they could show a little more compassion and love to our fellow humans
