TOLSIA WINS 48-18 IN RARE THURSDAY NIGHT GAME
CLEAR FORK, W. VA. In a game that was moved up a day because of Hurricane Florence it was the Tolsia ( 2-2 ) offensive lineman that stole the show in a 48-18 blowout road victory over Westside ( 1-3 ) Thursday night as the Rebels ran for over 400 yards on the ground.
Seven different Rebels scored touchdowns including lineman Kameron Holmes who snatched a fumble out of midair and rumbled 25 yards for a score after a Devin Crum sack on the first drive of the second half to pretty much seal the victory.
Peyton Watts scored on a 4 yard run to open the scoring to give Tolsia a 6-0 victory after one period.
Tanner Copley went in from 2 yards out and Watts added the conversion run to make it 14-0 with 10:07 to go in the first half.
Westside bounced right back on a 2 play drive with a 61 yard touchdown pass.
Tolsia answered with a Devin Crum 14 yard scamper to make it 20-6 with 7:56 to go in the half. After a John Wilson fumble recovery Watts scored once again this time from 16 yards out and added the conversion run to make it 28-6 with 4:30 in the first half.
Westside got a short swing pass and the running back raced 84 yards for a score on the first play to make it 28-12.
Tolsia QB Tanner Copley dove in from 1 yard out with 17 seconds left to set the halftime score of 34-12.
In the second half the defense scored a touchdown and then the offense added another score on a John Wilson 9 yard TD run and conversion run to make it 48-12.
Westside scored on a 1 yard TD plunge to set the final score of 48-18.
Will Newsome recovered a fumble in the 4th quarter for the Rebels.
The Tolsia defense held the Renagades to negative 2 yards rushing the football.
Tolsia will travel to heated rival Tug Valley next Friday night.
Tolsia Head Coach Eric Crum
“… It was our most complete game of the year so far, Offensively and Defensively we limited our mistakes. We had a couple issues with the snap but overall I thought we blocked well, ran hard and other than a couple big pass plays our defense was really good.”
“… Our backs really ran hard tonight and went downhill. We got on them a little and told them to get behind their big frames and use the size they have.”
“… Our run defense was outstanding tonight. The guys up front won the battle on both sides of the ball. We have some stuff to clean up but I really think we have our running game figured out. Our running backs compliment each other so well. It’s hard to play both ways and still carry it 25 times a game. They have to have a break sometime.”
“… Big game next weekend vs Tug Valley. It’s one you circle early in the year now that we don’t play Wayne. It should be a great atmosphere and we are looking forward to making the trip and playing the game.”
