GRAYSON, Ky. — The Lawrence Co. Bulldogs kicked off their season late last week with a 44-14 road victory over East Carter in middle school football action.
The Bulldogs showed a lot of resiliency early building a 36-6 halftime lead before subbing the whole second half. The offense was explosive on the ground and through the air. QB Kaden Gillespie connected for 3 touchdown passes through the air to Jake Derifield.
The ground game was led by punishing running from Dylan Ferguson. Multiple players scored including Ferguson, Gillespie, Derifield, Lawson Baisden, and Ryan Marcum.
The defense played tough all night led up front by Abner Collinsworth, linebackers Dylan Ferguson and Will McDavid. Youngster Cody Crum came up with some big hits on the back end at his safety position and Derifield had a big interception.
The outside was anchored down by Ethan Horn and Cayden Ball.
Dylan Ferguson played well on both sides of the ball vs East Carter
The Bulldogs were also effective on special teams as Dylan Ferguson returned one kickoff for a TD and Gillespie returned another one inside the 10 yard.
The Dawgs are trying to pick up a home game for the next week after a cancellation, but are scheduled to return to action September 13th at Russell and September 18th at Raceland.
Bulldog Head Coach Blake Preece
“… It was a great team effort. We started about 18 different kids. Many played their first game or haven’t played much. We played great team ball and still have a lot of room to grow. It’s a great group of high character kids! I expect us to continue to grow each week into something special!”
