Stabbing, chainsaw highlight incident; Clay County man charged
One man is dead and another is in jail charged with murder and under a $1 million bond as the result of a fight that occurred in Jackson County.
The Kentucky State Police Richmond Post was called in reference to a fatal stabbing that occurred on Bailey Road in Jackson County, just one eighth of a mile from Highway 290.
The investigation indicates that Bradley “B.J.” Muncy, Jr. and Harry Halapawakakeaaea Henson, 38, of Manchester, were involved in an altercation. During the incident, it is alleged that Henson took out a knife and fatally stabbed Muncy, and also threatened four other people that were present, according to a KSP press release.
Henson, who is from the Chop Bottom area in Clay County, was arraigned in Jackson District Court Monday and entered a not guilty plea. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday, Feb. 29. His lawyer has already put in a request to reduce his bond.
Friends said Muncy was killed during the fight with his wife’s boyfriend, outside of a friend’s mobile home, according to published reports.
Douglas Allen used a chain saw to protect himself from Henson after what Allen said began as a friendly get-together with some pals ended in terror.
“All of a sudden this guy comes in accusing this guy of stealing his medication,” Allen told a local TV station. “Had a few words, had a swing and that is when the guy got him with a knife, stabbed him through the throat.”
Allen says the guy went crazy, went after Muncey’s wife and then him.
“Was trying to kill her and the only thing I knowed to do was to grab my chainsaw, I don’t have a gun or anything, fired my chainsaw up, and ran him off, run him up the road,” said Allen.
Another eyewitness, Tiffany Woody, a friend of the victim also described the scene for another station.
“The husband ran in, and he was stabbed on one side of the neck and it come out the other. And the boyfriend took off running down the road here, which he was caught. Thank God,” said Woody.
The KSP reports that Henson fled the scene and was taken into custody a short time later by KSP and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Henson was arrested, but remained at the St. Joseph Hospital in London for injuries received during the altercation. He is charged with murder and four counts of wanton endangerment (first degree). He was booked into the Jackson County Detention Center in McKee around 7 PM Saturday.
Bradley “B.J.” Muncy, Jr. was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner.
“I wish he would have thought about the kids really. I mean, they have kids together. He was a father of some beautiful children,” said Woody.
“B.J. was a real good guy, he didn’t deserve to die the way he did,” Allen said.
Family of friends of Muncy gathered at Lakes Funeral Home Tuesday to remember the life of the 36 year old father.
The ongoing investigation is being investigated by KSP Detective Tye Chavies. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County EMS, and the Jackson County Coroner.
