York Named KABC 15th Region Coach of the Year…

Pond Creek, Ky. — Lawrence Co. Boys and Belfry Girls are the #1 Seeds in the 60th District Tournament played at Belfry High School and are very likely to advance to 15th Region Tournament.
Both teams are looking to repeat as District Champs. The Dawgs and Lady Pirates went 6-0 in District play this year to claim the #1 Seeds.
In Boys action #1 Lawrence Co. ( 24-4 ) will play #4 Phelps ( 6-23 ) on Monday Night at 8:15 LC won both regular season meetings 81-37 at Home and 94-43 at Phelps. In the other First Round matchup it will be #2 Belfry taking on #3 Pike Co. Central at 8:15 on Tuesday Night. The teams split in the regular season with PCC winning 61-58 at Belfry and the Pirates winning at PCC 64-57. The rubber match should be a dandy.
Lawrence Co. is averaging 80.1 points per game with all five starters scoring in double figures. The Dawgs are led by Timmy Dalton, a 6’2″ junior at 19.3 points per game. Dalton also pulls down 6.6 rebounds per contest. His brother, Robert Dalton scores 17.9 ppg and leads the Bulldogs with 7.0 rebounds a game. PG Austin Chaffins scores 15.4 ppg and grabs 5.0 rebounds, Brandon Richardson averages 13.4 ppg and 5.0 rebounds and Grant Kiser, at 10.0 ppg and 4.0 rebounds rounds out the starting five which have been playing together for three years now and finished runner-up in last season’s 15th Region Yourney.
6’5″ big man Josh Ratliff and wing Tanner Black give good minutes and production off the bench for 15th Region KABC Coach of the Year Travis York.
Belfry is averaging 64 ppg and have some very good wins on the year. For the Pirates Garrett Fannin is the three point specialist and is scoring 18.5 ppg and 3.8 rebounds, Koleston Blankenship 10.6 ppg and 5.6 rebounds and Big Man Cole Bentley with 10.0 ppg and 8.1 rebounds per contest and is tough to deal with inside for Head Coach Mark Thompson
Pike Co. Central is averaging 61 per game at night have the best in Region win with 26 point dismantling of Johnson Central on the Road. For the Hawks Teddy Smith is the leading scorer with 15.6 ppg and he also gets 5.5 rebounds per game, Tyler Burnett is next with 13.8 ppg and 2.6 rebounds and Ryan Eads is a threat underneath with 11.3 ppg and leading rebounder with 7.2 per game for Head Coach Keith May
Phelps is averaging 51 ppg and have improved as the season has went on under 1st year Head Coach Brody Justice. The Hornets are led by Christian Mounts who gets 19.3 ppg and 4.3 rebounds, Big Man Matt Hatfield anchoring down low with 8.8 ppg and 6.0 rebounds.
Lawrence Co. Head Coach Travis York, is the KABC 15th Region Coach of the Year. The award is voted on by fellow Coaches in the 15th Region.
My prediction in the Boys 60th District will be Lawrence Co. over Phelps and Pike Co. Central over Belfry
In the Championship game it will be Lawrence Co. defeating Pike Co. Central
In Girls Action #1 Belfry ( 10-13 ) will take on #4 Phelps ( 9-15 ) on Monday Night at 6:30. Belfry won both meetings 55-29 at Home and 48-30 Phelps. On Tuesday Night it will be #2 Pike Co. Central ( 12-17 ) and Lawrence Co. ( 12-16 ) at 6:30. PCC won both regular season meetings 46-40 at Home and 57-43 in Louisa.
Lawrence Co. Lady Dawgs are averaging 53.3 ppg under Head Coach Melinda Feltner. Kendra Spaulding 11.6 ppg and 6.7 rebounds per contest, Alexis Ratliff 9.1 ppg and 4.0 rebounds, Kara Williamson 7.7 and team leading 7.4 rebounds, Layken Chapman 7.7 ppg and 3.0 rebounds, and Kassidy Cavins 6.1 and 3.0 rebounds. Destiny Chapman, Kelly Davis and Kylie Maynard will provide depth off the bench.
Belfry is averaging 45 ppg for Head Coach Kevin Deskins. Olliena Hairston is the leading scorer with 10.6 ppg and 3.2 rebounds per game, Kailee Rash 8.9 ppg and 3.0 rebounds per contest.
Pike Co. Central is averaging 56 ppg under Head Coach Derek Newsome. Cassidy Mullins is the leading scorer with 12.9 ppg and 3.5 rebounds, Madison Mullins 11.1 ppg and leading rebounder with 8.3 per game.
Phelps is averaging 45 ppg under Head Coach Johnny Fields Jr. the Lady Hornets are led by Danielle Prater with 14.7 ppg and 3.0 rebounds per contest. Brittany McCoy 6.8 ppg and leading rebounder with 7.6 per contest.
My prediction for the Girls 60th District is Belfry over Phelps and Lawrence Co. downing Pike Co. Central in the first round.
In the District Championship I will go with Belfry over Lawrence Co.
