SUPT. FLETCHER CALLS IT A ‘GREAT DAY’ FOR LC ACADEMICS
Blaine, KY – Even 16 inches of snow and school being called off couldn’t stop Lawrence County Middle School Academic teams. The 71st District Governors Cup Competition was hosted at Blaine Middle School on Wednesday as Fallsburg, Blaine, Louisa, and Elliott County Middle were all present.
Students from the competing schools tested in Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Arts and Humanities, and Language Arts and then faced off in Quick Recall. Written Composition and Future Problem Solving was completed prior to Wednesday’s competition.
Louisa Middle came out on top in the overall standings winning the District Championship for the 17th time in a row. Eleven students placed in the individual categories and LMS took first place in Quick Recall and Second place in Future Problem solving.
Fallsburg Middle came in second in the overall standings. Five students placed in individual categories and they won second place in Quick Recall and came out in First Place for Future Problem Solving.
Blaine placed third overall. Six students placed in individual categories. They placed fourth in Quick Recall and third in Future Problem Solving. Blaine was also the winner of this years Sportsmanship Award.
Elliott Co. Placed fourth in the competition overall with three students placing in individual categories, third in quick recall and fourth in future problem solving.
Both Fallsburg and Louisa Middle School advance to the Regional Tournament in Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving to be held on February 13th at Ashland Middle School. Also advancing will be the individuals that place top five in each assessment.

” …Awesome day, always a great day when the kids get to show all of the hard work that they have put in.” We have been practicing since August and playing league matches to get ready for District, Region and Hopefully State Tournament.” My stomach is always in knots during quick recall matches because it can change so fast.” Great group of kids we have.” Russell maybe the favorite in Region, Ashland and Rowan Co. will be right there as well.”

“… Great day for Lawrence Co. Schools as they swept 1st, 2nd and 3rd places overall and Blaine came away with the Sportsmanship Award as well.” Quick recall matches were very close and had a lot of intense moments, so proud of all the kids.” Mr. and Mrs Hammonds have been apart of academic teams for a long time and do a great job with the kids, they put a lot of time into it.” Mrs. Brady, Mr. Shepherd and Mrs Wilhoy do a great job at Fallburg with the Middle School and Elementary kids.” They do quick recall, problem solving and so much other stuff for the kids.” Mr. Spear and Mrs Thompson at Blaine do a great job with the kids.” So much improvement from the beginning until today with all of the kids in our school system.” I want to thank Blaine and Ms. Withers and Mr Jennings for hosting today they did a great job and had probably 75% of the faculty here today.” I want to thank Lawrence Co. High School Coach Mr Dixon for helping out and Mr Jennings as well.” All three principals were here today as well.” Great day for Lawrence Co. all around.
