BOE Attorney Schmitt advises no comment to public; Fletcher says only two applications for LCHS football coach
FALLSBURG, Ky. — An elementary school teacher has been suspended by lawrence School Supt. Dr. Rob Fletcher for as yet unspecified reasons according to the BOE’s attorney Michael Schmitt of Paintsville.
The teacher, Manis Shepherd was suspended without pay and the BOE approved the move at its January regular school board meeting.
This is what we received after inquiring about the suspension:
“Mark: I must advise Dr. Fletcher not to respond about the teacher suspension. The teacher has an appeal pending before a tribunal and so far at least has not opted for public disclosure,” Schmitt said in a message to Lazer publisher Mark Grayson. “Depending on the outcome of the hearing the information you requested may be available within 45 to 60 days. If you will mark your calendar accordingly and get back to us then we may be able to disclose to you.”
Fletcher declined comment per Schmitt’s advice and the teacher could not be reached for comment since his address and phone number were not given.
New LCHS football coach search is ongoing, only two applicants
“The football coaching position has generated some interest, officially and unofficially, Supt. Fletcher said in a message answering an inquiry by The Lazer staff. “Currently, I am only aware of 2 official applicants and others that have inquired about the position. Mr. (Travis) Feltner generally gets the applications for sports coaching positions at the high school.”
“The job should have been posted internally as well as with any KHSAA blogs/information sites. Mr. Hall is checking with KHSAA to make sure it has been officially posted. (They have been contacted to post the opening.”
