ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS 2015…
In this mega-busy world in which we live there are precious few moments to think and ponder what we, as a community need for Christmas, 2015 and the year to follow, but here are a few suggestions;
.) A marching band at our only high school. It is inconceivable to us that the Marching Bulldogs has withered on the vine with such a great history and so much fun and education involved. We need a Marching band…
.) A mid-sized factory that would employ 300 people at $15 an hour jobs with benefits...And the county government doesn’t count. Where is Howard See for crying out loud!
.) A nice restaurant will all the imenities. …like a brand name steak house…Hey Gene, where have you gone? You promised…
.) A reassessment of county political salaries. With almost every county official making nearly $100,000 a year plus retirement and other benefits with no education or other qualifications required, these coal boom paychecks need to be adjusted down so the taxpayers can catch their breath. And do we really need an assistant for every one of them?
.) A computer for every student in the school district. And with the tax raises Fletcher and his BOE have popped on us, this should be an easy task, especially if they would have a yard sale for the dozens of old computers purchased but never used by the system.
.) A sidewalk project that would include even Meadowbrook. Why do the highest paying taxpayers in the city/county have to walk down the middle of the street? And add to that some decent roads for the entire county to get to their homes no matter how much tax they pay. We need to get ready for the coal/oil boom that is already beginning…
.) A new sewage system that does not stink to high heaven. It’s a wonder even Santa would visit parts of Louisa with the aroma of you know what all around…
.) A trip to the Sweet Sixteen for coach York and the Bulldogs. They’ve been working at it since first grade and, after all, it’s a Louisa-Ft. Gay team that represents us all…
.) A new excise tax on dilapidated property. If it’s not usable and is harming the value of others’ property, turn Eddie and the other fire chiefs loose on it for a handsome fee. Enough is enough!
.) A recycling system for the city trash dept (mandatory). Wouldn’t be that difficult to do and the recycling center we have is rusting to the ground for lack of use. Use it or close it!
.) A new courthouse for Lawrence County. The two we have are not big enough for all the cheating and lying and joke justice that goes on inside. The one on 23 has a maze for a parking lot and many citizens have a tough time getting in…and besides, Martin County has three!
.) A new Louisa elementary school for PK-5 and a new Blaine-Fallsburg high school. Our students deserve an education that doesn’t require a half day’s ride on a school bus…and one that has modern equipment to work with…
These are not all the wishes I have, but after all, there are only 12 days of Christmas!
