LOUISA ROTARY, WALMART AND SCHOOL RESOURCE CENTERS DELIVER THE TURKEYS
Louisa, KY — The Louisa Rotary Club once again dealt out turkeys for needy families in Lawrence County for Thanksgiving. This program has been in effect for the last few years and is also in conjunction with area Lawrence County School Resource Centers and Louisa Walmart.
The resource centers determine families that are in need, and submits a number to the Rotary Club who works with Walmart to purchase the turkeys at a discounted price. Members of the Rotary Club then load the turkeys onto vehicles to be taken to the resource centers which then distributes to the families. This year, 175 turkeys were distributed to families in Lawrence County. Rotary President, Steve Montgomery said “This is a good example of working together within the community.”
Recently, representatives from Pathways, including Jane Wallen and Pat Derifield, visited the Louisa Rotary Club, and spoke about services they offer. They explained that many people think that Pathways is just a program for mental health, when in fact, many different services are provided such as help for substance abuse and prevention, support for developmental disabilities, services for women and children including autism, behavioral and mental health, and more.
Pathways works with people from all backgrounds and is a very much needed service in the community, promoting the emotional health and well being of citizens.
They operate over 50 facilities in the region, covering 10 counties, with more than 500 employees overall. The organization has been in operation since 1967.
The philosophy of Pathways is to provide comprehensive prevention and treatment services based on community needs and help people function at a higher level with more self esteem, competence, emotional maturity and responsibility.
Pathways of Louisa is located at 60 Professional Park and can be reached at 606-638-4332. Those in need of help and want to talk to someone are encouraged to call or visit the office.
