Anna Lou Maynard
1923 – 2015
Anna Lou Maynard, 92, of Glenhayes, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015.
She was born in Clifford, KY on February 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Dan and Nevada Ratcliffe of Glenhayes, West Virginia.
Anna was valedictorian of Clifford, KY High School class of 1940. Graduating at seventeen, she went on to work for the Wayne County Board of Education, teaching at Horse Creek, Lost Creek and Glenhayes. She continued her college education in the summers, graduating from Marshall University with honors. Upon closure of Glenhayes Elementary, she taught fourth grade at Fort Gay Elementary, and was their first Special Education teacher.
Anna was the oldest member of the Glenhayes Baptist Church where she was treasurer till age 90. Anna was an avid reader, enjoyed quilting, bird watching, and wild life. She was a true, Christian lady.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jack Maynard, brothers, Pearl Ratcliffe of Glenhayes, Bill Ratcliffe of Fort Gay, Roy Ratcliffe of Glenhayes, and sister, Jewell Maynard of Detroit, Michigan.
Anna is survived by sisters-in-law, Judy Ratcliffe of Glenhayes, Katheryn Ratcliffe of Fort Gay, Elizabeth Branham of Louisa, KY, Betty Goodaker of Romulus, Michigan, and brother-in-law Dan Maynard of Wheelersburg, OH; Aunt, Hazel Pettit of Columbus, OH; Terry Maynard and wife Anna Lee, a nephew of Titusville, FL, who was raised as a son; Her loving nephew, Dannie Maynard of Glenhayes who was her primary care giver for the last three years. Two grandchildren, Dr. Malinda Maynard Husson and husband, David, of Richmond, VA, and Chris Maynard of Huntington, WV, as well as three great grandchildren, Dylan and Cain Maynard, and Alexander Husson. She leaves behind many more nieces, nephews, and students, whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 28, from 5-9pm at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa, KY.
Funeral Services will be conducted at Glenhayes Baptist Church at 1pm on Sunday, November 29 with Reverends Ronnie and Richard Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Maynard Cemetery at Glenhayes, WV.
