Grayson, Ky — When practice started for the Louisa Middle Basketball team the goal was to play for Championships and the Dawgs did just that as the 7th and 8th grade teams brought home the OVC Preseason Championships on Saturday.
On Thursday in the Semifinal round the 7th grade beat Boyd Co. 40-36 behind Jared Wellman with 16 points and Cody Maynard with 13.
In the 8th grade game it was the Dawgs over Simmons out of Fleming Co. 49-25. Tyler Maynard led LMS with 16 points, Alex Ratliff 9, Joe Schmidt 8, Chase Sartin 7, Jared Wellman 5, Briyce Brooks and Cody Maynard 2 each.
In the Finals on Saturday the 7th Grade team won 50-38 over Lewis Co. Brandon Davis and Jared Wellman had 15 points each, Cody Maynard 10, Baden Gillispie and Trenton Adkins 5 each.
The 8th grade team won a nail biter 42-40 over Lewis Co. Jared Wellman poured in 19 points to lead LMS, Alex Ratliff 14, Tyler Maynard 7 and Corbin Fairchild chipped in with 2.
On Tuesday Night Louisa Middle welcomed Paintsville to the Dawg House for three games as the 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams played.
In the 6th grade game it was the Dawgs falling behind early and trailing for most of the game but battling back to get the victory over the Tigers 39-36. Kaden Gillispie and Trenton Adkins led the Dawgs with 14 and 13 points respectively, Rayson Adkins had 6, Mason Preston, Adam Skaggs, and Brody Diamond had 2 points each. Colin Litteral led the Tigers with 9 points.

” Got a great group of kids this year, only 3-4 have played much basketball and we have only been together for a few weeks.” They have transitioned from football to basketball really well, I’m tickled to death.” Kaden Gillispie, Trenton Adkins, and Rayson Adkins played well on offense and Zach Holt was a steal machine tonight.” Mason Preston, Brody Diamond and Parker Preece on the glass we’re outstanding.” So proud of our team, total team effort.
In the 7th grade game it was all Louisa from start to finish as the Dawgs won by the score of 63-20. Cody Maynard led in scoring with 25 points, Jared Wellman 14, Joe Schmidt and Trenton Adkins 7 each, Brandon Davis and Baden Gillispie had 4 each and Kyle Davis chipped in with 2 points. Ethan Hensley led the Tigers with 5 points
In the 8th grade game it was Paintsville escaping with a 35-32 win over the Dawgs. Jared Wellman led the LMS with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Alex Ratliff 8 , Tyler Maynard 7, Joe Schmidt had 4. Paintsville was led by Seth Williams has he poured in 32 points.

” We played well in the OVC tourney, bringing home the Championship we had nice balance on offense and that is what we like.” Played really well together but still have a lot of work to do.”
