‘Lawrence County Select’ team will travel…
Grayson, Ky — Louisa Middle Basketball team picked up wins over Russell Tuesday Night in the OVC Preseason Tournament.
The 8th grade won 52-34 with Tyler Maynard, Alex Ratliff and Jared Wellman all in double figures with 14, 12, and 10 points respectively, Chase Sartin had 8, Joe Schmidt 5 and Corbin Fairchild chipped in with 3 points.
In the 7th grade game the Dawgs won 39-25 as Jared Wellman led the way with 12 points.
Both teams will advance to play the winner of Simmons/Raceland on Thursday night. All games being played at East Carter.
” Well balanced scoring and high pressure defense led to a great win over a very solid and much improved Russell team.” Coach Wellman said.
FALLSBURG DRAGONS
Fallsburg, Ky — On Monday night a mixture of 6th and 7th graders from Louisa played a mixture from Fallsburg in two really good games.
In the first one it was LMS winning 35-26 as Zach Holt led the Dawgs with 12 points, Rayson Adkins 10, Adam Skaggs 8, Brody Diamond 3 points and 18 rebounds and Will Dillow chipped in with 2. Fallsburg was led by Braydon Coffey with 11 points and 10 rebounds, Jacob Savage 6, Jackson Mathieu 6, Ty Hutchison and Ryan Brown 2 each.
In the second game it was LMS 17-13 in game that was shortened because of a emergency behind the scorers table, everything turned out ok. For Louisa it was Brandon Davis with 9 points, Trenton Adkins 6 and Parker Preece with 2. For Fallsburg Luke Cassell had 6, Ethan Salyer, Braydon Wilks, Eli Randall had 2 each and Nathan Wilks chipped in with 1 point.

“We are very young and inexperienced, but we have some good size and the kids are very coachable, they also want to learn,” Fallsburg Head Coach Ron Miller said. “We will run a motion offense and will try to use our size.” What the kids do in the classroom dictates what happen on the basketball court. …Would also like to give some attention to the Lawrence Co. Select team which is a mixture of kids who are in the 2nd to 5th grade and Coached by Greg Woods. The youngsters will travel to Boyd Co. and play in a team league most Saturdays to get the kids exposure. The team will also play travel teams from the local area in Johnson Co. Martin Co. Carter Co. and Boyd Co. and the team will also play some local tournaments. This does not take kids away from the LC Hoops league which is really thriving right now according to Coach Woods some of the kids on his team play both and as far as he knows the kids haven’t missed either one. –BB
