Comets coach expects big turnout for ‘historic’ game for W. Carter
Olive Hill, Ky — West Carter ( 9-2 ) had never won a playoff game in school history until last Friday when the Comets snapped a seven game playoff losing streak with a win over Sheldon Clark 40-3.
This week the Comets are looking to continue an historic season in which they captured a District Championship for the first time in school history. The Comets welcome visiting Lawrence Co. ( 8-3 ). The two teams haven’t met since 1994.
Lawrence Co. is coming off a record setting performance by QB Grant Kiser in a 49-30 win over Fleming Co. The senior laden Dawgs look to get back to the Regional Championship game for a second straight year.
LC has won 4 in a row and the offense is rolling right now led by Kiser and the Dalton Brothers. Both teams have put a bunch of points on the board this year. The Dawgs average 33 points per game and the Comets put up 41 points per contest.
West Carter is led by Senior QB Braden Brown who has 2,224 yards of total offense and 41 total touchdowns. Soph. RB Peyton Brown has 531 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns, Senior WR Zach Walker is the leading receiver with 20 catches, 537 yards and 11 touchdowns. On Defense Junior Shelton Kouns is the leading tackler with 113 and Senior William Jordan with 93. Place Kicker Senior Tristan Moseby has 26 PAT.
Friday night’s game will begin at 7:30 at West Carter who is playing up in Class AAA because of travel. The winner of this game will play the winner of Belfry/Russell on Friday Nov. 20th
COACHES COMMENT
Lawrence Co. Head Coach Joey Cecil
” We are getting there, trying to get better every day. West Carter is very athletic and I’m sure they will be ready to play at home.”
West Carter Head Coach Kevin Brown
” We are excited to play, have a ton of respect for Lawrence Co. and the tradition that they have. Have to limit the big plays and try to contain them the best we can. Had a great crowd last week and expect an even bigger crowd this week. Braden is a lot like Kiser both are duel threat QB’s. We feel confident and will be ready to play.”
