Hillman named Kentucky Library Association scholarship recipient
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 13, 2015) – Carlie Hillman, director of the Lawrence County Public Library, has been named a recipient of a Kentucky Library Association (KLA) Linda Kompanik Memorial Scholarship.
Hillman received a $3,000 scholarship for the 2015-16 school year. She will complete her Masters of Information and Library Science (MLIS) degree at the University of Kentucky next summer.
KLA granted a total of $18,000 in scholarships to six recipients from across Kentucky.
“I am honored and thankful to have received the Linda Kompanik Memorial Scholarship,” said Hillman. “My educational experience at the University of Kentucky has been wonderful so far. I look forward to implementing more positive changes at our library to service my home community.”
KLA created the scholarship to encourage members to increase their skills and knowledge through formal studies in librarianship. To receive a scholarship, recipients must be entering or continuing their library education in an American Library Association (ALA) or National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) accredited library school. Recipients must also show excellence in scholarship and potential for accomplishment in the field of library science.
The scholarship is funded by proceeds from the sale of “READ” license plates and was named in honor of the late Linda Kompanik, a tireless advocate for Kentucky public libraries who spearheaded the campaign to create the license plate.
“READ” license plates can be purchased in any Kentucky county clerk’s office.
