Halloween around the corner… 2nd year for ‘Nightmare in the Square,’ downtown Louisa’s newest event….still room for more vendors
Louisa, KY — Louisa’s newest downtown event, ‘Nightmare in the Square,’ is just around the corner, coming up Oct. 30-31. This is the second year for the event and several more activities and attractions have been added including a ghost walk tour, paranormal investigation, witch pageant, costume contest, and a junk car show.
There will be musical entertainment, a magician, costume and pumpkin carving contests. Downtown businesses will be invited to participate in a window decorating competition and encouraged to stay open late to promote special sales they may have going on.
The Boo Bash, a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday Oct. 24, will kick off Halloween week with activities leading up to the witchy weekend on Friday Oct. 30th and Halloween, Saturday Oct. 31. During this time, those entering the pumpkin carving contest may begin bringing in their Jack-o-lanterns to be displayed in town (location to be announced later). Also beginning on the 24th, the Lock Avenue Lunatics attraction will begin in which residents of Lock Avenue will decorate their homes and yards to the max, competing for the 2015 award. (Decorations must be complete by the 24th).
The Lawrence County Public Library will also be offering activities during the week and on Thursday evening the Lawrence County Square Dancers will be performing in front of the courthouse. Specific information and times of each activity and attraction will be posted as soon as details are finalized.
More vendors are needed to sell arts, crafts, food, toys, jewelry, flea market items, t-shirts, etc. Food items needed are chili, apple cider, hot chocolate, kettle corn, pumpkin rolls and more. Set up fees are very reasonable; only $25 per booth. Vendors are encouraged to decorate their booth. Organizations who would like to set up an information booth, the fee is only $10. Applications are available at the Lawrence Co. Economic Development office, 2nd floor of the Lawrence County Courthouse, 122 S. Main Cross St., in downtown Louisa, KY.
On Friday night the Maudie Mae Masquerade Ball will be held at the Louisa Community-Senior Citizens Center downtown. This is a pre-paid dinner/dance event in which tickets will be sold.
A real life Lawrence County mystery will be revived and you will be left to figure out the fate of Maudie Mae. More details of this event will be available soon. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Missing Persons Foundation.
