EAST KY. PRESS announces four new Civil War volumes by John David Preston
East Kentucky Press, Inc. is pleased to announce the publication of four volumes by John David Preston, Civil War Soldiers of Boyd County, Kentucky; Civil War Soldiers of Letcher County, Kentucky; Civil War Soldiers of Magoffin County, Kentucky and Civil War Soldiers of Morgan County, Kentucky.
Designed to complement the author’s work The Civil War in the Big Sandy Valley of Kentucky, which contained lists of soldiers from the core Big Sandy counties of Floyd, Johnson, Lawrence and Pike, these works contain lists of Union and Confederate soldiers from the four counties which are drained in part by the Big Sandy River.
The listing for each soldier contains, where available, regiment, company, rank, dates and places of enrollment, enlistment and discharge, age, hair, eye and skin color, height, POW status, wounds, date, place and cause of death, place of birth, house number on the 1860 census and such other information as may be contained in the military records.
The author consulted numerous sources in compiling these lists, an endeavor of three years’ painstaking research, and the sources are listed in a numerical key.
The volumes are paperback, with the following number of pages in each volume: Boyd, 95; Letcher, 71; Magoffin, 51; and Morgan, 79. The price of each volume is $20.00, plus $4.00 postage. All four volumes are available for $60.00, plus $4.00 postage. The books can be ordered from East Kentucky Press, Inc., P.O. Box 808, Paintsville, KY 41240-0808, from amazon.com or on our website eastkentuckypress.com.
