Good times ROLL …again in downtown Louisa…
South Side Roller Rink re-opens to the public
Louisa, KY — Nearly everyone who grew up in Lawrence County can recall Friday and Saturday nights spent skating around a shiny wooden floor amidst the bouncing colored light that danced to the music at the South Side Roller Rink in Louisa.
Well, on Friday night, September 18, 2015, the good times rolled once again as the South Side Roller Rink held it’s grand opening, welcoming everyone to come roll with them.
Them, being the new managing body of the roller rink, Darrin and Andrea Maddox and John and Jamie Smith. The two couples who between their families have a total of twelve children, some with special needs whom they have adopted, decided to take on this endeavor a few months ago. Previously the roller rink, owned by the Pannell family, had only been rented out for private parties, but had not been open to the public in several years.
“We wanted to prepare the way for our children to have gainful employment and become productive members in society” said Andrea Maddox. The children range in age from 7 to 25, and this is a family business that plans to expand into other areas.
Jamie Smith said “We have a passion for establishing things to do in our community. We want our kids to stay in Louisa and contribute to the county.”
Smith and Maddox said they are glad they can provide a place of entertainment where people can drop off their kids and know they will be safe. They have plans to expand into Lazer Tag, indoor putt-putt and more.
South Side Roller Rink will be open every Friday and Saturday night from 7-10 pm.
Admission is $3 and concessions are available. Parties may be booked for $150 for two hours and includes music, Limbo, and Four Corners. Outside food may be brought in for parties.
