Bulldogs score winning TD on Kiser to Chafin pass with :28 to go…
LLOYD, Ky — With their backs against the wall Lawrence Co.’s ( 4-1 ) defense bent but didn’t break in a come from behind 19-15 victory over Greenup Co. ( 2-3 ) on the road last night.
The Dawgs defense forced four turnovers. The first one was a Tyler Horton fumble recovery on the Musketeers first drive and LC took advantage as Grant Kiser found Robert Dalton on a 13 yard pitch and catch and Austin Chaffins added the PAT to give the Lawrence Co. the early 7-0.
Greenup Co. took an 8-7 lead and had control until Zach Keezee found paydirt to give LC the advantage 13-7 but right as the first half expired the Musketeers scored on a 16 yard touchdown pass and added the PAT to go into half up 15-13.
The teams traded punts and turnovers in the 3rd quarter as both defenses played well.
Greenup Co. put a drive together and faced 4th and five from the 10 yard line to put the game away around the three minute mark when the Dawgs defense stood tall and forced an incomplete pass and took over on downs.
That is when Kiser and the offense went to work, aided by two 15 yard penalties on Greenup Co., LC had it 1st and goal from the nine with 28 seconds left when Kiser rolled to his right and found Austin Chaffins in the endzone for the go ahead score.
Greenup Co. had one more shot but Brandon Richardson ended that with an interception to seek the victory 19-15. Horton and Dylan Simpkins also had interceptions for the Dawgs defense.
Lawrence Co. will be off until Oct 2nd when Raceland pays a visit to the Dawg Pound. Greenup Co. will host East Carter next Friday night.
“COACH’S COMMENTS…”
“Too much bending but we didn’t break, they exposed some stuff and now we have to look at film and personnel,” Bulldog Head Coach Joey Cecil said. “Have to improve up front. Sometimes you get breaks and sometimes you don’t. ” We overcame some stuff and kids made plays at the end.” Bye week coming at a good time, when you play a physical and emotional game. We need to continue to grow and realize this could be a turning point. “Heart goes out to Greenup Co. they are getting better by the day.”
PLAYER COMMENTS…
” Everybody get to the ball, everybody do your job, and it will come together. ” Senior Tyler Horton said. “When I got the pick I was thinking endzone. ” JYD on the last drive on defense. “Amazing play by Chaffins and Grant. We before Me”
” Experience means a lot we have 15 seniors” We are senior dominant on offense. ” Senior Josh Ratliff said. Ross got hurt, but Horton stepped up. Have to heal up and get better during the bye week.”
