AUGUST DAR MEETING INCLUDES PLANNING
The Louisa Chapter of DAR met Tuesday, August 25, 2015 in the conference room of the Lawrence County Library.
After opening with reciting the DAR Ritual including the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, The American’s Creed, and the Preamble to the Constitution, the meeting was called to order.
This was the first meeting with the new officers that had been installed in June. These officers are elected for a two year term which runs from 2015 – 2017.
The many projects for the coming year were discussed. The DAR is very active in the community including:
* Clipping Campbell’s Soup labels for education
* Saving pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House to stock some grocery items for the kitchen,
* Taking donated items of cat and dog food and cleaning supplies for The Humane Society
* Collecting toiletries and other items for the VA hospital.
A date of December 11, 2015 at 6:00 pm was set for the annual Christmas dinner and fund raising Auction at The Down Home Grill in Louisa.
Also, due to conflicting events such as Class reunions, there will only be an end of the year meeting and dinner in May and no further meetings in June.
Any woman eighteen years old and above is eligible to be a member as long as you can trace your lineage back to a Revolutionary soldier or Patriot. Your documents are then sent to the DAR Headquarters in Washington , DC where the genealogist verifies the membership applications.
Pictured are the Hostesses for the night who treated everyone with a Potato Bar and desserts. Their theme was, ” Don’t Clown Around Join the DAR”.
Next meeting will be September 22, 2015 at 6:00 pm at the Lawrence County Library.
