Mt. Sterling, Ky — When you play against a team that is almost double your school in enrollment the one thing you can’t do is help them out, and that is exactly what 3A Lawrence Co. (1-1) did and 5A Montgomery Co. (1-1) took advantage and came away with a 28-14 win Firiday night.
The Dawgs fell behind after the first drive 7-0 but came right back down the field as Cole Mosley rumbled in from 7 yards out and Micheal Scaggs booted the extra point to tie it up at 7-7.
The Indians fired right back as Art Walker found Cody Parsley down the sideline for a 46 yard touchdown.
On the ensuing kickoff Timmy Dalton raced down the right sideline for an 82 yard kickoff return and Scaggs tacked on the extra point to knot the score 14-14.
The teams traded punts the rest of the half to keep the score at 14-14.
Lawrence Co. couldn’t get much going in the second half because of penalties and turnovers. Montgomery Co. made them pay and scored 14 unanswered points in the second half. Indians senior wide receiver Cody Parsley had 4 catches for over 130 yards and 1 touchdown.
Lawrence Co. will return home next Friday night to face Fairview ( 2-0) Montgomery Co. will travel to Harrison Co. ( 0-1)
COACH’S COMMENTS…
” Big Line, Big Fullback, Big Tailback we knew they would try to pound it.” Head Coach Joey Cecil said. “Wish we could have got some momentum with that second half, they need to realize and play with more urgency and go down and take the lead and put some pressure on them.” ” I can tell you real simple 2 or 3 plays in a close game makes the difference. We fumble and the kid makes a crazy catch.” We trust our guys to make plays.
