Lawrence County to be represented at tourism booth at State Fair
By Catrina Vargo
Sixteen year old rising star from Lawrence County, Kelsie May, who was a recent contender on NBC’s ‘The Voice,’ will be performing at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville this Friday, Aug. 21.
May will be performing as part of the ‘Barrels and Boots’ Festival featuring Montogmery Gentry, and John Michael Montgomery with Rae Lynn, Eric Paslay, and Craig Campbell.
The show is part of the fair’s Main Stage Concert Series which will be held in Freedom Hall. Tickets are $37 reserved, and may be purchased at Freedom and all Ticketmaster outlets. Purchase online at Ticketmaster or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000. A $66 VIP ticket is also available. Both ticket types include KY State Fair admission.
Members of the Lawrence County Tourism Commission will be representing Lawrence County at the Eastern KY ‘Pride of the Counties’ Tourism Booth, sharing the booth with Pike, Floyd, Boyd, and Montgomery Counties.
Lawrence County reps will be handing out brochures on area attractions, events, recreational spots, and businesses, promoting the area, talking to people about Yatesville Lake State Park, Lawrence County Campground, Fallsburg campgrounds and ‘famous’ haunted house, Septemberfest, Heritage Harvest Tour, Appalachian Bike Tour, Nightmare in the Square and more. Reps will talk about points of interest such as the Fred M. Vinson Museum, Louisa-Ft. Gay Bridge (Ripley’s Believe it of Not), Lock #3 (first needle dam built in U.S.), and other unique and historic features.
Shops that sell unique items, antiques, arts, crafts, home and garden decor, and such will be featured, and some pieces will be on display and for sale.
The Painted Cow Art Gallery will be represented with some pieces from local artists.
Of course, local singers and musicians will be promoted with their CD’s shirts, pictures, etc. and will have a chance to perform acoustically on the ‘pickin porch’ of the booth. First Time Around will be featured as well as Bobby Cyrus, and others, and Kelsie May will stop by on Thursday, Aug. 20 to sing a few tunes on the porch.
Other Lawrence County artists–musical or other, who would like to be promoted at the fair, may call 606-624-5569.
Local restaurants will also be promoted and there will be several drawings throughout the fair with great prizes from each county, encouraging people to come visit eastern Kentucky.
Last year, over 600,000 people attended the Kentucky State Fair. The Eastern Kentucky Tourism Booth will provide an opportunity for folks to learn about the Appalachian area and what all it has to offer.
