WEBBVILLE, Ky. — A Webbville man who was arrested on assault charges Friday night and released on a $5,000 bond the next day has been re-arrested and additional charges have been filed including wanton endangerment, Lawrence County Sheriff Garret Roberts said today.
Cody Williams, 37, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Daniel G. Vossmer, on assault charges Friday night after Williams allegedly fired 30 shots from a rifle at family members during a domestic dispute.
Williams’ father in law, David Anderson is recovering at home after being shot three times in the Friday evening incident.
Williams was released on a $5,000 bond at the Carter County Detention Center on Monday but three additional witnesses filed more charges Monday morning in Lawrence County and Williams was again arrested, this time at his mother’s home which is near the Lawrence/Carter County line Monday night, County Attorney Mike Hogan said Tuesday morning.
Charges of Wanton Endangerment and Assaut 4th degree were brought by Williams’ wife, mother in law and a neighbor who were all shot at by Williams according to the new warrants.
He was picked up by deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s office Monday night and is being held at the Big Sandy Detention Center, Sheriff Roberts said.
KSP Troopers say a domestic argument between Anderson’s daughter and Williams turned into a gun fight. While most of the shots hit the ground or a nearby tree, Anderson was hit in the neck and two more times — in the back and shoulder — before Williams ran.
“It is a miracle that nobody was hit by some of the bullets,” Sheriff Roberts said. “He let loose two full cartridges on them without much warning.”
Hogan’s office did not know what Williams’ new bond was set at but it is expected that it was much more than $5,000.
