On July 28, 2015 Patrolman Hunter James of the Louisa Police Department was awarded with the Governors Award for Occupant Protection 2015 during a luncheon ceremony held at the Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington. Officer James led his department with 36 seat belt citations out of the 93 that were written between June 2014 through June 2015.
“Officer James is an outstanding officer and continues raising the bar, Louisa is lucky to have such a great young man serving their community,” stated Louisa Police Chief Greg Fugitt.
Also receiving the award for the Lawrence County Sheriff Department was Chief Deputy Mark Wheeler.
