LAWRENCE CO. LIBRARY ENDS SEASON WITH PARTY
Lawrence County Public Library concluded their summer reading program this past week with a celebration at Xtreme Tumble Inflatable. Throughout the summer both children and adults were able to participate in a variety of activities sponsored by the library.
Superhero themed reading programs took place at both the library and also Blaine Community Center, which was a first but not a last.
“We’ve decided to do it in Blaine for at least a year, and probably longer based on interest,” said Deanna Farris, children’s librarian. “It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I’m hoping to bring more activities to the area.”
Activities in Louisa included performances by Ronald McDonald, movie showings and Pinterest activities.
“The total number for participants so far is 1,003,” said Farris. “That doesn’t include participants from the reading contest, which we anticipate to be even more,”
The reading contest is an annual event which participants can earn entries throughout the summer for checking out books and are awarded prizes later.
While the fall schedule has not yet been released for the library, Farris says it will include activities such as Pinterest activities, lap sit story hours, book discussions and possibly tutoring sessions.
