Former Cardinal star to return as coach at 50
INEZ, Ky — Who says you can’t go home again.
After spending six years as an Assistant Coach for the Varsity and Head Coach of the JV Team at Lawrence Co. from 2009-2014 Randy Bowen will be named the Head Baseball Coach at Sheldon Clark High School.
Dr. Lonnie R. Laney, Principal of Sheldon Clark High School issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff at Sheldon Clark High School, I want to warmly welcome Randy Bowen as our new baseball coach. We received applications from several highly qualified people but after much discussion, the Site-based Decision Making Council decided Randy Bowen was our best choice. He is a Martin County graduate. He played baseball and has coached baseball as an assistant in Lawrence County for many years. He is a wonderful person. Truly he will be a great asset and role model for our students.

Bowen played baseball at SCHS from 1980-1984 and earned the school’s first Division I baseball ccholarship to Mercer University in Macon, Ga.
“Can’t wait to get started, really excited to being home, been around baseball all my life and always wanted to be a Head Coach and at 50 years this maybe my only shot,” new Cardinal Coach Randy Bowen said. “They have good facilities and this is a great opportunity for us. I am a baseball guy from way back and I missed being in the dugout last year.”
Sheldon Clark returns seven starters so Bowen says he will have a good starting point “plus they have a good feeder system”.
“I enjoyed my time at Lawrence Co..” Bowens said. “Feltner does a great job, love his ‘team first’ concept. Going to miss Lawrence Co. he runs one of the best programs in the state. But, I can’t wait to get back to Inez where I grew up.”
