JULY 5, 2015
The Lawrence County Soccer Club hosted their very first Dawg Dash 5K, and rain could not keep nearly 50 runners from coming out bright and early on Saturday, July 4th to support our LCHS Lady Dawgs! Registration started at 7am, and the walk/run began at 8am. There were participants from seven different age groups, ranging from 5 to 57 years old. Participants started the 5K at the LCHS parking lot and followed a 3.1 mile route down Bulldog Lane, around LMS, through Beech Grove and around the streets of Meadowbrook before reaching the finish line back at LCHS parking lot.
The overall best time was made by Andrew “Brady” Crockett, who ran the 5K in 22.32 minutes. Not far behind was Jason Hill with a time of 25.22 minutes, and third place was Mollie Workman at 26.07 minutes. These individuals received ribbons for first, second and third place overall. Brady Crockett also received a certificate for best overall time from the LC Soccer Club. First, Second and Third place ribbons were also awarded to the best times in each of the seven different age groups.
All pre-registered participants received Dawg Dash t-shirts sponsored by Pawn Brokers USA Inc., L & A Communications, Wal-Mart of Louisa and Dee’s Drive Inn. Without the generous support of these local businesses our 5K would not have been the success it was, thanks again for all your help and support! We had a special feature at our 5K where our Lady Dawg Soccer players could volunteer to be “adopted” on race day. This works by sponsoring the Dawg to walk/run on race day. We are thrilled to say there were 15 Lady Dawgs ready and willing on race day to be “adopted,” and we would like to give a special thanks to their sponsor, Michelle Workman! Thanks to all the Dawg family & friends that helped in any way to make our first 5K a success. From registration, to timing, to water stations, to the participants themselves, on behalf of the entire LCHS Soccer Dawg family….THANK YOU!!!
We look forward to making this an annual event and already have some ideas to improve the overall experience next year. We would love to see everyone out bright and early next July 4th weekend for a fun, family-friendly way to kick off your day!
All proceeds from the 5K are used to send our LCHS Lady Dawg Soccer team to Morehead State University Summer Soccer Camp. Our Lady Dawgs leave for camp this Friday, July 10, where they will receive three days of training from Head Coach Warren Lipka and the MSU Soccer Coaching staff. Their days will begin at 7am and end at the 11pm lights out….all for the love of the game! Nightly scrimmages against other teams attending camp usually begin around 7pm for anyone that would like to attend.
We want to invite everyone out for our pre-season scrimmage against Spring Valley at home on our LC Soccer field behind LCHS on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, as well as our season opener against Pikeville on Monday, August 17, 2015 also at home. For a complete schedule check the LC Schools webpage or KHSAA site.
