Louisa, Ky. – Three Rivers Medical Center is pleased to announce that Dr. Thomas Frazier, gastroenterologist, will now be offering a Hepatitis C Clinic in Paintsville, Ky.
Dr. Frazier and Lynn Hill, APRN will be also be adding on to his clinic days in Paintsville, offering clinic hours Monday and Wednesday to see patients.
Chronic Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease, increases the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, and is the most frequent indication for liver transplantation in the United States. HCV infection can progress to cirrhosis and end stage liver disease in a substantial proportion of patients. Most experts and public health organizations recommend screening high risk patients for HCV infection, including all “baby boomers” (individuals born in the United States between 1945 and 1965).
The majority of people with Hepatitis C can be treated and cured from the infection. Several interferon-free treatment options are now available to many patients. These newer, all-oral medications have cure rates often exceeding 90% for most patients. Importantly; side effects of these regimens are minimal in comparison with previous treatments. When left untreated, the symptoms of hepatitis may progress into fatal conditions such as cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver failure.
Dr. Frazier is a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
He is welcoming new patients and accepts most insurance plans. His office is at 958 Broadway, Paintsville, KY, 41240. For an appointment or more information on this article, call 606-638-4656.
