LAWRENCE COUNTY YOUTH FOOTBALL LOOKS TO DOMINATE UPCOMING SEASON
The LCYFL is coming off its most successful season ever with a Turf Bowl appearance at Marshall University Stadium and the LCYFL cheerleaders having successfully placed at the TSYFL cheer competition.
The LCYFL is for children ages 6 to 12 and competes against teams from Ohio and West Virginia. The competition is fierce, but Lawrence County is now known as a powerhouse in the league. Every year the program is growing and the number of children participating increases.
“I am so proud of everyone involved,” Said LCYFL President Heath Preston. “The board, the volunteers and especially all the kids; we all work so hard to not only be successful, but to learn, have fun and make our community proud.”
The league has 5 teams and is broken down by age and weight. Cheerleading Teams are broken down by age. E team is for 6 and 7 year olds. D team is for 8 year olds. C team is for 9 year olds and 10 year olds under 80 pounds. B team is for 10 year olds over 80 pounds and 11 year olds under 100 pounds. A team is for 11 year olds over 100 pounds and 12 year olds. You must be 6 years old by August 1st and be 12 on August 1st to play. The league is very structured with weigh in’s before each game and high school referees officiating the games.
The official start dates for football are:
Speed and agility conditioning training starts Monday, July 6th at 6p.m. at the high school football field. It will be every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in July at 6 p.m.
The first official day of practice is July 27th.
Sign ups for football and cheerleading will be Saturday July 11th, 18th, 25th at the high school football field from 10 a.m. until 2p.m. Also you can sign up any evening at speed and agility.
