Biggest crowd turnout ever for the All-Class Reunion
LOUISA — The class reunion of all class reunions….is the annual All-Class Reunion of Louisa High School for all graduates from 1940 to the last year of its existence in 1977, when the new Lawrence County High School was built.
Committee Chairman and emcee, Clyde Johns, reported the attendance total of 262 student alumni at this year’s reunion, held Saturday, June 13, at the Lawrence Co. Community Center.
Bill Jackson led the prayer, then dinner was served. Afterward, classmates mingled, reminisced, laughed, and posed for pictures.
Some class years had only one or two present, some had several, some had none. The year with the most classmates present was 1965, this being their 50th yearreunion. They were seated on stage, and Clyde Johns announced that from now on, each year the class having their 50th reunion will be featured on stage, which will also create more space.
Johns read the list of classmates who have passed on and reminded everyone that this could be the last year they are together. He encouraged everyone to take time to visit with each other and truly enjoy the day.
Doris Hayes was named ‘Teacher of the Year,’ and Ilene Sturgill Thompson, showed off her graduation bracelet that she received in 1957. Mike Miller, Class of ’69 was present with news of more upcoming books. Last year, he presented the popular scarlack book ‘Through The Years.’ Dr. Norman Edwards also showcased his book ‘Lawrence County Doctors,’ as did Liss Jones, with ‘Memories From The Bottom.’
Former Governor, Paul Patton was also present.
Door prizes were given away, and everyone joined in signing the class song. Johns recognized the All-Class Reunion Committee for all their hard work, as well as Rebel Barn Catering for the outstanding dinner. Johns said “We’ve got this place till 6:00 this evening, so please stay as long as you can.”
Another All-Class Reunion is in the books, and by all the smiles, it seems as though it was a huge success. Until next year…..”Hail to Ole Louisa!”
If you were part of a graduating class for Louisa High School 1940 – 1977 and missed the event, there will always be next year!
