FT. GAY DRUG CRACKDOWN
Second married couple with children to be arrested in a week
FT. GAY, W.Va. — In a continuing new crackdown on illegal drug activity in the Fort Gay area, a married couple was arrested Tuesday evening in a drug bust at a home along Vancouver Street in the Mill Creek area, close to the Fort Gay Elementary School, in Fort Gay.
Richard Allen “Tex” Rogers and his wife, Jovita Diane, were arrested in their Vancouver Street home; charged with three counts of possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy. Additional drug charges are pending that was initiated following a probation check.
According to officials with the Wayne County Drug Enforcement Unit, officers with the Probation Dept. were doing a check with the assistance of the DEU and found a large quantity of marijuana and hydrocodone pills.
They also said cash, drug use paraphernalia, and other pills were found during a search of the home.
Both suspects previously had been arrested by the DEU after undercover drug buys. They were out on probation after serving short prison charges from previous charges in 2014, one for Richard Rogers in W. Va., and 3 separate arrests for Jovita Rogers in 2014, with two of those in W. Va. and the other one in Hamilton County, Ohio, which is the Cincinnati area.
Wayne deputies also stated that Child Protective Services (CPS) were called to the scene because two to three children lived in the home. It was later determined that they were actually the Rogers’ grandchildren as the couple’s daughter was visiting.
Neighbors of the Rogers’ say the family has lived on Vancouver Street for only a few months.
Assisting in the arrest were Lt J. Ward, deputies J. Williamson, M. Terry, and consultant Bob Copley.
The couple is currently lodged in the Western Regional Jail in Barsbourville.
The arrest marks the 3rd drug bust in the Fort Gay area in the last eight days.
On June 1, William “Willy” Cook, 53, of Fort Gay was arrested on multiple drug charges following a raid at his home, as he was described as a major dealer in Wayne County. And on June 3, Allen Wayne Copley and his wife, Odessa Danielle Copley were arrested on drug charges and child endangerment charges following a raid at their apartment at the Fort Gay Apartments on Orchard Street in Fort Gay.
