Kelsie May gives special guest performance
Louisa, KY — Contestants from Lawrence and Boyd Counties came together in Louisa Friday evening, June 5, at the Lawrence County Community Center, where they competed in the quarter round session of the Country Music Highway’s ‘Road To Fame’ talent search.
Each contestant performed in front of the audience, which turned out to be a good size crowd. Local folks included City Council Member, Mitch Castle and Lawrence Co. Tourism Commission Chairman, Keith Chaffin, who came out to support the event. Lawrence Co. Cororner, Mike Wilson, was also in the audience, supporting his granddaughter, Madison Cassell, who was a contestant.
Special guest, Kelsie May, a local singer and recent contestant on ‘The Voice,’ performed a few songs, and answered questions from the audience. When asked what advice she would give to aspiring singers, she said “It’s a lot of work and dedication, but you should never give up on your dreams.”
Ten contestants advanced to the next round. They are: Sierra James, Justin Radcliffe, Justin Stevens, Corbin Booer, Jodi Perkins. Madison Cassell, Samantha Fisher, Kaitlyn Fitch, Wakita Young, and Isabella Harr.
Winners from other counties will also be competing in the two semi-final competitions at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg on June 18 and June 25.
Those who advance from there will go to the final round at the MAC on July 2.
This is the 4th year for the Road To Fame event. Prestonsburg Tourism Chairman and organizer of the event, Fred James, announced that Lawrence County will become a permanent host for the competition. “We were very pleased with the response and the help we got here” he said. James plans to meet with Lawrence County Tourism later to assist in promoting the event for next year.
