Dawgs beat Paintsville with big 6th inning; Bailey hurls 5 hitter
Prestonsburg, Ky — The Dawgs overcame a 1-0 deficit late in the game to claim a spot in the 15th Region Baseball Championship game by defeating the Paintsville Tigers 5-1 last night.
The second game was not over until around midnight because of rain and lighting problems at Prestonsburg’s Stonecrest Park.
Austin Bailey tossed a complete game five hitter while striking out seven and improving to 5-0 on the year leading coach Travis Feltner’s team to the big win.
Lawrence Co. scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when District MVP Morgan Miller led off with a walk and Zach Keesee lined a triple into the right center gap to put the Dawgs on the board and tie the score. Austin Bailey followed that up with a single up the middle to give LC the lead for good. Bailey stole second and then courtesy runner Jarrett Fairchild came around to score on a Josh Cantrell single. Three straight walks to Brad Parks, J.T Hall , and Noah Lambert plated another run and Miller batting for the second time in the inning reached on a error to set the final score.
Keesee was 2-4 with a RBI and run scored. Josh Cantrell was 2-3 with a run scored and RBI, Brock Turner chipped in with a single.
The Dawgs improved to 22-15 and will face Johnson Central Wednesday night at 7:30 in Prestonsburg at Stonecrest for the right to play in the State Tournament next week in Lexington. Paintsville’s season ends at 25-9.
