Lady Bulldogs lose hard fought 4-1 game vs. Central
Prestonsburg Ky — Lawrence Co. was just a couple plays away from knocking off the defending 15th Region softball champion but came up just short losing 4-1 to Johnson Central in the first round of the 15th Region Tournament Monday morning at Prestonsburg.
Freshman Ciana Bowen pitched “well enough to win” but the defense was spotty at best LC coach Kenny Horn said. Bowen went the distance allowing one earned run while striking out five.
The Lady Dawgs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Savannah Cyrus singled and Hali Young bunted her to second and when the first baseman threw behind Cyrus she took third and scored on a Bowen ground out.
Johnson Central tied it in the sixth and then scored three runs with two outs as the Lady Dawgs commited three errors in the seventh. Cyrus was 2-3 with a run scored, Bowen was 1-3 with a RBI Tosha Rose had the other hit for Lawrence Co. who finish the year at 22-13 and lose seniors Cyrus and Young.
Johnson Central improved to 24-10 and will face Pikeville Tuesday night.
“Had to play clean because this was going to be a low scoring game. We prepared well and the scouting report was right,” head Coach Kenny Horn said after his Lady Bulldogs were eliminated in the first round of the Region 15 Fast Pitch softball tournament. “Always tough with the seniors, because they won’t wear the red and black again. Not going to replace them – best middle infield I have had in nine years. Cyrus played her guts out and Young played good all year. Ciana pitched will enough to win but the defense let us down, “Horn said. “Appreciate your coverage, please let the community of Lawrence Co. know that we greatly appreciate the huge crowd we had up here supporting our girls. The present administration is backing us more then any other administration has and we are very appreciative.”
