The 2015 Eagle Ridge Golf League
has
Completed its 5th Week of Play
Prior to telling you of the beautiful weather on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, let me tell you of the Rotary Scramble, held on Saturday, May 16. 2015.
The weather was fine for most of the day, but, unfortunately, we had an especially hard rain shower during play. So to tell the real facts, because most have heard tales about yours truly escapade, one must first understand my golf game. I was all dressed in the outfit, chosen by my wife, new shirt, new pants, and new shoes, for she knows my game has departed; therefore, although unable to play a good game, I must look the part before I reach the tee.
So with my new duds and my new shoes, which only have nubs rather than spikes, J. Lynn See, Dan Preece, Andy See, and I started on our way. When we had played a few holes, it began to rain and Ronnie Maynard lent me his rain jacket. What a nice, thoughtful guy. Then we reached hole-5. It had stopped raining but, unfortunately, our best approach shot was a side hill lie on about a 50° slick slope. Well, it seemed, when I hit my shot from the lie, you naturally fall back. Well, without spikes, I scored a 9.5 on my roll down 3/4ths of the hill, when my shoes wouldn’t grab purchase. As I lie on my back, looking up at the sky, I asked, “why me?” The answer was “why not me with all my tales from chasing down a golf cart, and swinging and falling in a creek?”
As I called back up the hill, my playing partners looked down at me and said, “forget Bill, it will take him forever to crawl back up the hill.” Had it not been for Andy See, the only one who showed mercy, going back over the hill to get my gap wedge that I had dropped during my downward trip, I would have finished one club short. When we came to the clubhouse, there was a line, much like a political parade, awaiting my arrival. I had seen Ronnie before I came in and assured him I wasn’t wearing his rain jacket when I fell, so his fears were allayed. And then I saw Missy Kennedy, the park manager, and club pro, who was grinning from ear to ear. Beside her was standing her darling daughter, Morgan. Missy asked what happened, knowing full well the story. So I bent over and told Morgan the real thing, “after I made my swing, I saw a copperhead and stepped back, almost stepping on a rattlesnake, and she was amazed.” So as I was leaving, Morgan wanted me to tell the story again, not just falling down the hill, she said the entire thing. So that’s my tale and I stand by it, “copperhead and rattlesnake” and if you don’t believe me ask Morgan.
