LC on probation the rest of season
Dr. Rob’s comment:
Superintendent Dr. Robbie Fletcher”KHSAA officials sent a press release out today that outlines the penalties for both the Pike Central and Lawrence County programs due to the events of the May 5th baseball game between the two. The focus of their findings centered on the issue that both teams “had players to leave their positions during the altercation.” As stated in the press release, this is a violation of KHSAA Bylaw 15 and National Federation of High Schools Baseball Playing Rule 3-3-1g. KHSAA officials did note in their findings that neither team had players “become involved in the altercation or in separate altercations.” KHSAA also penalized the player that instigated the altercation.
At this point, we are hoping for a speedy recovery for our student-athlete. The “charge-and-punch” (as shown on video from various media outlets) was one of the worst incidents that I have viewed on the playing field, and sadly, the video did not show the entire event. Our thoughts and prayers are with our student-athlete and his family.
Also, I am thankful that our team did not become involved in separate altercations. Even though the rules point out that players should not leave their positions or the bench, this event could have ended with many more injuries.”
