Lawrence BOE April Meeting:
Academic Teams Recognized; Enhanced Security In All Schools
LOUISA – The Lawrence County Board of Education recognized all of the district’s academic team participants at the April regular meeting of the Board of Education Monday evening and the Board discussed issues such as standards-based report cards, budgets, security updates and improvements for each school building, and pending grant applications and community involvement.
“It is so impressive to see all these schools’ academic teams do so well in district, regional and state competition and really show what it means to be all in,” said Lawrence County Superintendent Dr. Robbie Fletcher.
“I’m a firm believer in academic team. I believe that our ACT scores and test scores increase as our academic teams continue to improve and perform well,” said Dr. Fletcher.
Fletcher also reported to the Board that Lawrence County Schools had a 100% completion rate on the TELL Survey, which is a sampling of educators to get their feedback on school-related issues and job satisfaction. The statewide percentage of completion is 89% and Lawrence County had all 190 educators complete the survey.
Fletcher updated the Board on meetings with Senator Ray Jones related to gravel roads the school buses must travel (over 400 miles per day), collaborative consultation with Sullivan University along with County Judge Executive John Osborne, County Economic Development Coordinator Catrina Vargo, and Three Rivers Medical Center CEO Greg Kiser, and school community days.(See separate Lazer story)
He also updated them on completion of buzz-in security upgrades at each school and an updated version of the 2014-15 School Calendar. (See separate Lazer story)
The board also approved minutes, expenses and consent items, discussed a revision of the discipline policy and the AT&T Aspire Grant technology plan and memorandum of agreement with Martin County and Johnson County Schools.
