LOUISA – On Thursday, April 30, one of the most important and worthy annual events will take place again at the Lawrence County Community Center from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. “Stand Up For Children” is an event designed to bring together community members and their families to celebrate children and family togetherness.
The Youth Service and Family Resource Centers of Lawrence County Schools, in conjunction with the Community Collaboration for Children, is sponsoring this third annual event which is designed to bring awareness to children’s issues during Child Abuse Prevention Month.
There will be safety oriented classes available for parents and guardians as well as networking opportunities to give parents and guardians opportunities to access various community resources available to help them deal with these issues. Classes include: Family Safety, Child Seat Safety, Water Safety, Disability Awareness and Behavior Management, Social Media Safety, Home and Fire Safety.
“Our main goal is to provide this as an educational opportunity for parents. We want to give them skills they can use and resources they can call on when they need help,” said Lawrence County Youth Services Center Coordinator Deana West.
West and her fellow FRYSC Coordinators Noel Goble (Louisa West/East Elementary), Brenda Curry (Fallsburg) and Barbara Hall (Blaine) have put together an occasion that includes inflatables, food, games, door prizes and parenting workshops – including appearances by the ever popular Elsa and Olaf.
For more information or to find out how you can volunteer, contact them at their respective schools.
The entire community is invited to participate and to “Stand Up for Children.”
