APRIL 6, 2015
Season officially underway…

Louisa, KY — Spring has sprung at Yatesville Lake State Park, with the campground officially opening on April 1. Last week, the 6th Annual Yatesville Lake Spring Cleanup took place, and even though the day was sunny, it was unseasonably cold, but still brought out a “record number of 72 volunteers who put in 216 hours” said Park Ranger, Andrew Auxier, of the U.S. army Corp of Engineers.
Auxier reported that 237 bags of litter, 9 tires, and 6 bulk miscellaneous items were removed from the lakeshore and Rt. 32.
“The temperature at the beginning of the event was approximately 25 degrees and it never got above freezing” said Auxier. However, that did not deter folks from coming out to help clean up the lake area, preparing for the 2015 season.
Participants included students from the Lawrence County High School and Big Sandy Community and Technical College, the Cherryville Baptist Church, Girl Scout Troop 1009, and other local families and friends.
Sponsors included the Friends of Yatesville Lake, Coca-Cola of Louisa, Lycom, the Lawrence County Park and the Yatesville Lake State Park. Lunch was provided after the cleanup event for the volunteers.
Yatesville Lake Park officials and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers thank all those who volunteered and sponsored the event.
The Friends of Yatesville Lake group will meet Tuesday, April 7, at 6:00 pm in the Lawrence Co. Park Conference Center. Anyone interested in Yatesville Lake area projects and development are encouraged to attend. The group is seeking new members.
