Julia “Bill” Hall Burke
1921 – 2015
Julia “Bill” Hall Burke went peacefully home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Julia was born on March 9th, 1921 at Fuller, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Rufus Hall and Rebecca Mounts Hall. Julia dedicated her life to the Lord as a young girl and continued to serve Him throughout her life.
Julia met her life-long partner Charles William Burke and they were married on November 4, 1939. They spent fifty-four years together working for the Lord, ministering in song. They sang until her husband went to be with the Lord in 1993. Julia continued her work for the Lord by singing with her brother Lewis and with her daughters right up until her death.
Julia and Charles are the proud parents of six children that they instilled high morals and values in as well as hard-work ethics — five daughters: Judith Dale Pittman of Louisa, Kentucky; Linda Lou Savage (Jack) of Louisa, Kentucky; Betty Hardin Bartram of Fort Gay, West Virginia; Melissa Kay Holbrook (Allen) of Louisa, Kentucky; FaDana Hazelett (Carl) of Louisa, Kentucky. One son: Walter Maxwell Burke (Betty) of Amlin, Ohio.
On any given day, the gleam in Julia’s eyes and the broad smile on her face could be attributed to her seventeen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was a devoted “MaMaw”. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren at her side. Her eyes would light up when they came in the room to see her.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, husband and all of her siblings. In addition to her immediate family, Julia leaves behind for a short time many nieces, nephews and friends to carry on her legacy.
As written by her granddaughter Terriska, “Mamaw led by example, but her own humility wouldn’t allow her to realize the true impact she had on me and I am sure many others. I learned unconditional love, tolerance, loyalty, patience, how to be humble and how to be grateful for the most important things in life. The small seemingly unimportant things are truly the greatest gifts in life and so many people overlook them, but she didn’t. I learned to not overlook them by watching her. She left this world the way she lived in this world … with grace and eloquence.” This perfectly describes our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother. We will forever cherish the many wonderful memories we have of her.
