MARCH 29, 2015
LOUISA, Ky. — The Louisa Rotary Club met Thursday, March 26, at the First Baptist Church in Louisa, and after the invocation, Pledge of Allegiance and Four Way Test was said,
the meeting was called to order by President, Greg Kiser.
Announcements included a $300 donation to the local food bank, the upcoming golf scramble fundraiser on May 16, beginning plans for the Rotary auction, reminder of the $50 pledge, and anyone interested in volunteering for president-elect.
Lawrence Co. Library Director, Carlie Hillman announced there will be a public meeting on April 16 at 10:30, 12:00 or 4:00, at the library for input concerning the library’s strategic plan.
“We want input from the community” said Hillman. If you are not able to attend, you may take the survey on the website.
Hillman also announced there will be a county wide Easter Egg Hunt. Large 16 and 12 inch eggs with the library’s logo will be in place by Monday, March 30. No clues will be given. You have to get out and explore your county (Don’t forget Blaine and Fallsburg). Eggs must be returned intact to the front desk of the library no later than 1:00 Saturday, April 4 in order to receive a prize and be entered into a drawing for a Kindle Fire. Contact library at 606-638-4497 for rules.
New members, Rita Parker and Judy Carter were inducted and received their Rotary badges.
Member, Catrina Vargo encouraged everyone to attend the public meeting held by the Kentucky Department of Transportation on Thursday, April 16, 5:30-7:30 pm at the Lawrence Co. Community Center. The meeting is about the connector road at Yatesville Lake between the marina and the campground, which has been held up for sometime now.
“Everyone who can needs to go to this meeting to show your support and tell them how important it is that the road be completed soon. It will not only benefit all of us here, but will draw in more tourists.”
The floor was then opened up to guest speaker, Missy Kennedy, Yatesville Lake Park Manager. Kennedy who managed Eagle Ridge Golf Course for the last several years, was appointed interim park manager after former manager, Mike Sullivan retired last December. “I have gigantic shoes to fill” she said.
Kennedy said April 1st kicks off the 2015 season at the lake with the opening of the campground and a special two for one deal. This year she said more kids activities will be included.
Regular season golfing rates which are set by the state park system, go back into effect April 1. However, Eagle Ridge will offer some special $25 games including Military Monday (must show I.D.), Men’s League Tuesday, Hometown Wednesday (must show proof of residence), and Senior Day Thursday (62 and over).
Saturday is family day from 1-4 with $25 games for every junior golfer.
“We are trying to get folks back to the golf course” Kennedy said.
Ladies Clinics will be held on Tuesdays 6-7 pm April-May. Junior clinic will be held on Sundays in May 2-3 pm. Kids and Parks Day is recognized nationally for families to enjoy state parks. On Thursday mornings 9-10 there is a PeeWee golf class for kids ages 4, 5, and 6. From 11-12 there is a class for advanced kids who aspire to play at the high school level. “We have lots of Lawrence County kids, and some from Floyd and Johnson Counties” said Kennedy.
She also said she gets lots of calls from people requesting a golf package, but since there is no resort at Yatesville Lake, people don’t have that option. “We give them a discount if the stay at the hotels in Louisa, but they just don’t want to drive very far from where they are staying to the golf course.” This is why the road connecting the campground to the marina side of the lake is so important.”
President Greg Kiser announced there will be no meeting next week, but a board meeting is scheduled for April 1.
The next Rotary meeting will be held on Thursday, April 9 at the Louisa First Baptist Church.
