Ciana Bowen pitches no hit shutout against Shelby Valley
2015 team roster
LOUISA, Ky. — Coach Kenny Horn’s latest edition of the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs softball team is off to a great start this season withfive straight wins and a 3-0 regional and 1-0 district record.
The team traveled to Shelby Valley yesterday and came home with a 4-0 win.
The Lady Bulldogs have the rest of the week off to prepare before they embark on their annual “road trip” March 30-April 3 where they will match up with some top notch competition including seven games against teams from Illinois, Florida, Wisconson, Ohio and WV.
Pitching and defense have been the Lady Bulldogs calling card so far this year giving up only 7 runs in all five outings while scoring 25. The Bulldogs are young, real young with five 7th and 8th graders on the roster and only two seniors, Hali Young and Savannah Cyrus, on the team.
“We have had a good start to the season. Played well at times, and have shown a lot of promise, coach Horn said. “We have committed too many errors and have made some base running mistakes that have cost us some runs but overall I’m excited about this group of young ladies that have put the work in all fall and it’s starting to show.”
Horn said he has had excellent pitching from junior Tosh Rose and freshman Ciana Bowen
I’ve been really happy with both of them,” Horn said.

“Overall it was a good win over a 15th region team. We had too many errors. Up 7-1 going into the 6th. Ciana was sharp and really pitched well. I think we had some good things to build on with this being the first game.”

“Ciana Was sharp. Always nice to have 10 strikeouts. Giompalo was on fire at the plate and she made several nice plays in Centerfield. Overall I was pleased. We still need to clean it up on defense, 4 errors today. That will hurt us in the end.”

“Tosh was on today. She did a great job in the circle. Defense had 3 errors or Rose would have a shut out. This is a good win for the girls. Magoffin has had a good run over the past few year. Still Gotta clean up the Errors.”

“Montgomery is the best team we played this season so its nice to win. Ciana was sharp again today, and the defense played clean. If we can be solid on defense with the pitchers we have its going to be a good year. Savannah Cyrus stepped up big time today. She tripled into the right field corner scoring Ally Marcum from first. She also went in hard at home to dislodge the ball from the catcher to score the second run. To shut out a team like Montgomery is a big deal.”
