Yogi Berra once said “it’s not over till it’s over”. That statement proved to be true last night in the 15th Region Semifinals as Lawrence County overcame a 10 point deficit with 70 seconds remaining to shock Sheldon Clark 66-65.
It was a battle between the two district champions all evening long with both teams coming from behind to take the lead late in the game. Junior Austin Chaffins hit the game-winner after Sheldon Clark guard, Chase Parsley lost the ball on and in-bounds play under the LC basket.
Coach Travis York, his team, and the Bulldog faithful erupted when Parsley’s final attempt at the buzzer clanked off the back rim to give LC the win.
“I told our guys in the huddle to keep believing in each other and in me because I believed in them,” York said. “We knew we could pull this off, even when we got down late in the game we believed.”
“We celebrate now but like I told my team in the locker room after the game, we have one more to go.”
Robert Dalton led the way in the scoring column for the 60th District Champs with 18 points, Chaffins had 16, Brandon Richardson had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Timmy Dalton chipped in 10 points, Grant Kiser had 5, and Shawn Moore tallied 3 to round out the scoring for the Dawgs.
Lawrence County advances to tonight’s championship game to face Johnson Central (who has won the last 3).
