The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm advisory for the western one-third of Kentucky from noon on Friday to 6 a.m. CST Saturday.

The region will see snow early Friday night. It will then become mixed with sleet and freezing rain overnight and into Saturday.
NWS said significant amounts of snow and ice accumulations are expected in the region but the exact amounts of precipitation types are still in question.
In Northern Kentucky, the weather service is predicting 4-6 inches of snow along with a trace of ice. The snow will be heavy tonight in Northern Kentucky, the weather service said. It will mix with rain and freezing rain on Saturday.
Road conditions will be hazardous in the area, NWS said.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service office in Jackson said a winter weather warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m. Saturday for Eastern Kentucky. Things will start off with snow and then change to a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain and finally to just rain throughout the day on Saturday. The rain will eventually end Saturday night.

Travel will be dangerous and there’s a chance of power outages because the wet snow could bring down trees in the region.
