Law enforcement in the region are looking for the individual or individuals responsible in the recent thefts of copper at Foothills Broadband in Johnson County. Foothills also services part of lawrence and other surrounding counties.
The latest theft case happened earlier this week. According to reports by the company, the latest theft caused service outages for thousands of telephone, cell phone and internet customers in Johnson, Magoffin, and Lawrence Counties.
Foothills officials stated similar theft situations have happened 30 or 40 times in just the past year, most often in the early morning hours. Despite all of the technical and timing issues, officials with Foothills Broadband are confident the copper thieves will be caught.
Foothills Broadband is now offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest or conviction of those responsible for the copper thefts. Company officials say they have information that a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord with West Virginia tags could be involved. That information has been passed along to police throughout the area who, according to officials, have yet to be able to identify the vehicle.
If you have any information, contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department or Foothills Broadband.
