Bulldogs finish week (2-1) after 84-83 win over Shroder, Ohio; Dawgs regrouping…

Louisa— The Lawrence County Bulldogs finished (2-1) in boy’s basketball action last week. The week started off rough for the Bulldogs after they fell 81-59 to former district rival Johnson Central on Tuesday night. Junior Robert Dalton played in his first game back following a minor illness. Dalton led the Bulldogs in scoring with 21 points. Grant Kiser fouled out with 10 points, Austin Chaffins, Brandon Richardson,and Shawn Moore each contributed 9 points apiece. Alex Gilliam added one point off the bench.
The Bulldogs fell down 15-10 in the first quarter then battled back to tie it 24-24 in the 2nd quarter. The Golden Eagles closed the first half on a 13-0 run to lead 27-24 at the half. Lawrence County outscored Johnson Central (21-17) in the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 54-45 heading into the 4th quarter. The Bulldogs cut the Golden Eagles lead to 2 points several times but Johnson Central kept responding like good basketball teams do. Tommy McKenzie’s squad finished the game strong outscoring the Bulldogs (27-14) to win 81-59.
Johnson Central, a former District 57 Bulldog rival, was led by Kyle Gullet who finished with a game high 28 points. Mason Blair added 17 points, Braxton Blair put in 12, and Dalton Adkins contributed 10. Tyler Pack scored 8 points off the bench, Josh Hitchcock added 4, and Patrick Rice finished with 2 points.

Louisa- The Bulldogs returned home for action Thursday night as the Russell Red Devils (5-15) came to town. The Dawgs didn’t waste any time getting off to a hot start leading 20-11 at the end of the first quarter. Robert Dalton picked up where he left off in the Johnson Central game scoring 7 points in the first quarter to tie teammate Austin Chaffins 7 points, and Grant Kiser added 6 points.
The second quarter wasn’t any better for the visiting Red Devils as they were down 25- 22 at half-time. Bulldog junior Brandon Richardson had an offensive explosion in the second quarter scoring 12 points, Robert Dalton added the other three points.
Russell came out of the locker room and played much better in the third quarter as Ethan Raby would add 5 points in the quarter, and teammate Landon Brewer scored 4, and Heath Hensley chipped in two points. The Bulldogs found consistency in scoring as Brandon Richardson had 6 points, Shawn Moore added 5, Robert Dalton put in 4, and Grant Kiser added two.
The fourth quarter found the Bulldogs leading Russell 52-35 behind stingy defense. Russell was outscored (21-20) in the fourth quarter to lose by a final of 73-55. Robert Dalton led the scoring in the fourth quarter with 6 points, Grant Kiser and Austin Chaffins bot added 4 apiece, Tanner Black added 3 points, and Brandon Richardson contributed 2.
The Bulldogs were led in scoring by junior Brandon Richardson with 22 points including (4 three pointers), Robert Dalton recorded his second straight 20 point game, Grant Kiser scored 12 points, Austin Chaffins added 9, Shawn Moore put in 5, and Tanner Black finished with 3 points.

Bulldogs 84, Shroder Paideia Academy, Oh 83
Cincinnati, OH – The Bulldogs traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio Saturday to square off against the Shroder Paideia Academy Jaguars. It was the first ever meeting between these two programs and it was a fantastic ball-game.
The Jaguars playing with two college basketball signees were a clear favorite but the Bulldogs came to play. Sophomore Timmy Dalton in his first game back scored a game high 31 points while his brother Robert Dalton was close behind with 25.
Junior Brandon Richardson added 15 points which included some big time three pointers to keep the Bulldogs in the game. Junior point guard Austin Chaffins finished one point away from double figures with 9, and Grant Kiser fouled out with 4 points.
The Jaguars led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bulldogs answered back outscoring them 19-18 in the second quarter for a 34-34 tie at halftime. Both teams played extremely well in the third quarter with visiting Bulldogs outscoring the Jaguars 24-22 in the third quarter to go into the final quarter leading 58-56.
Shroder finished the game with a strong performance in the final period outscoring the Bulldogs 27-26. The Jaguars held a one point lead with less than a minute but the Bulldogs had the basketball. Sophomore Timmy Dalton scored with 18 seconds remaining to give the Bulldogs a 84-83 lead. The Jaguars got a few shots off but nothing would go in and the Bulldogs walked away with an exciting 84-83 victory to improve to (10-8) on the season.
